I was bored today, so i thought i'd install linux on my 2nd PC, it went on fine, but i havent a clue how to setup the networking

I can ping it, and i think i can ping this, but i cant seem to get the networking on it, anyone know how i can do this? mandrake 8.0 and all the default shiz that came with that

also if you know how to mount NTFS drives in linux plz tell me

then your networking is set up =P

so I presume you mean how do I set it up so my windows box can "see" it no? to do that you will need something like samba and will have to configure it to do your bidding. as to mounting shares on said winbox you will need something like smbmount. Network shares usually don't give a hoot what kind of filesystems are underlying as these things are handled transparantly by the server. If you want to mount NTFS partitions on the same drive, that is also not a problem as linux supports these [and about 3 zillion other filesystems and partition types -unlike some other OS heh]
All the above is prolly installed by your distro as default.

I dont really care if my windows box can see it or not, cos i do all my transfers via ftp etc, I wanted to know how to get the linux box onto the internet thats about it really

Well, if your using a ppp connect, then there should be a graphical setup somewhere in X. Cable modems are dead easy to setup as they connect using a regular ethernet card, so setting up the ethernet card is about all you have to do.
DSL is a little more difficult, but again, not too bad - loads of FAQ's - www.adslguide.org.uk and head to the linux forum.
