Is it possible. If so it would be on an IBM or Toshiba laptop.

I have Mandrake 7.2 running on a Toshiba Satellite 300 CDS (I know it's well old). Linux runs sweet on it though ;)

Hardware detector works great - even detects the PCMCIA network card fine.

Go for it m8 ;)

same here bids, I run LM7.2 on both of my laptops and even run a webserver ans FTP site from one (of course, you can't access either unless you're on ABN AMRO's network). The main laptop I run is an HP Omnibook 3100 and the other is an IBM Thinkpad 760XD.

I've also run FreeBSD 4.1 and 4.2 on both.
