anyway I've looked. the only thing I really like is the built-in ethernet. that causes me to wonder if m$ will let you lan the thing/play 1v1/connect to the internet/browse, dl, do all kinds of stuff

P.S. I started off your poll on which console do you want. I put X-Box but i won't buy it prolly. I just wouldn't want to see gamecube win since it looks stoopid

yeah I do agree with you there, it does look a bit pants. Just have to see what the software it can pump out is like I suppose.

Games will look great on the Xbox of course but better than PS2/GameCube for all but the saddest ppl ? I doubt it. Still not seen anything on PS2 that looks better than Soul Calibur or Shenmue on Dreamcast despite the theoretical advantages the PS2 has. I think we're reaching the limits that a Telly can produce or that developers have time to code for at the moment.

Conclusion: it all comes down to the games. Eye-candy differences are barely discernable these days. Games matter. Get a Dreamcast (cheap with great games) or stick to PC

2 close friends of mine work for a certain software house in london that are
a) producing 1 of the 3 launch games that will be sold with the XBox when it is released (and this game in partiuclar will be used to show it off on the official MS Hype launch) and
b) doing alot of testing on the XBox prototypes (devkits) that MS keeps sending them

Conclusion: It blows the PS2 out of the water hands down, and as for the dreamcast, their words were "trying to make me laugh?" And these devkits are seriously underpowered compared to the final release specification too. Wait for the final product, with the next generation Geforce and ghz+ cpu

I remember reading about this a while ago and thinking "Thats gonna be extremely underpowered compared to the pc's of its day, if the current rate of pc advancement continues"

Err hello? Tekken Tag?

Soul Calibur at first looks good because of all the swishing swords creating those effects. But they are actually quite flat, and just a cheap way of making it look nicer (cf: Unreal engine). If you compare like for like, and compare the effect Yoshimitsu's sword makes in TTT against SC for example, you'll see that the PS2 spanks the DC hard.

Imo (and the opinion of ppl who've been round to my house to play em) Tekken Tag don't look as good as Soul Calibur. Sure TTT has some cleverer effects but overall it's just not as nice on the eye.

There's only so much difference extra fill-rate (etc...) can make on a TV. Until something is powereful enough so you never notice it's shaded polygon's with sparkly effects it's more down to clever artists than a bit more machine power.
