Lag problems?....Possible part solution.

Louster I was just writing this for a new thread, but I think it will fit in here nicely now:-

I don't suppose a couple of the servers could get cut down to 24 or maybe 28 players could they?

I noticed last night that at the beginning of the maps, when there was a few less people, or later on when people were going to bed, it ran like a dream. But when the servers were full there was a lot of warping going on.

To clarify, my frame rate doesn't drop below 70fps, my ping stays pretty low, and some people are moving about the map perfectly smoothly. It's just a few people's positions seem to be getting updated about once a second, or worse, making it impossible to have a fair crack at shooting them.

It used to be a blast a few days ago before the server was completely maxed, last night, it, well, sucked really.

It's my understanding that the player numbers have been worked out in accordance with the suggestions of the publishers to fit on the servers BW have, but we all know how much the publishers have screwed up on the rest of this release, so how about a couple of servers with a slightly lower player limit to build in a bit more of a safety margin?

I have 768 Mb of 2700 DDR, (btw this amount of memory means maps take about 2-3 seconds to load, not the 25 seconds or so it took with just 256Mb :) ) to answer the Summo question from above. Really I can only put it down to player numbers, and 32 is maybe a bit optimistic. Can we try a couple of lower ones for a week or two, see how it goes?

I am running the latest SB Live drivers I could find from SB.com, dated 18/03/2002 and they have made sweet fa difference :(

Are you lot using a different version, cos the problems you describe are exactly the same as mine (even down to hardware in some cases).

Next time anyone on ISDN/56k or whatever plays a 30 person game... keep an eye out for this effect? Perhaps I'm just more sensitive to these things having been on ADSL for a year or two before moving house.

Agreed. I always have sub-100 ping nowadays, and my frame rate is mostly perfectly reasonable, 60 +. Yet players are updated so slowly that hitting them is just impossible. As Ive said before , planes in the sky without moving for ten seconds is fairly rediculous too. Yes Im on isdn too, I wonder if this is a broadband only game ?
Im also a bit dissapointed by the lack of realism (said the DoD player :) ) This morning I was in a tank and got blown up by a guy with a handgrenade.
Nar , Im off back to DoD luvs, sorry :/

/Sorry to edit your post btw .

Have you disabled Hardware Acceleration on page 2 of the sound options?

Do that!
