I have to ask.. can it be a combination of OT and the gameclient? When I see mass LD happening I turn my head and look at the ping I got going against excal .. It shows a spike jumping from the usual ~50-60ms to a little over 500, next one down to 160ish .. and then returns to normal. No packetloss happening.. can it be that the client just have some of trouble with the spikes? (this is just a theory..) .. also get a few 100-150ms ones every now and then.. but mostly its fairly stable at the 50-60ms

Granted I havent gone LD at all today.. however just now six out of the eight in my group did.. and we failed again at getting bled back.

It just doesnt look like it should be that bad a spike that one would LD from it.. from my end of the world.. and thats Norway :)

btw.. blaming GOA for trouble outside of their network is like blaming Ford for the bad roads in Siberia (I'm just guessing the roads are not the best there..). its just not Fords fault. However unlike Ford, GOA is trying to help the consumer getting to the bottom of the problem and get it fixed.

..ok so I'm horrible at comparing things :(

Nope, its not - nice try though :)

We pay GOA to provide a service. As part of that they are responsible for providing the server hardware and having it accessible via the Internet for their customers.

They chose the ISP, they chose where their servers would be located. Their choice has NOT been good enough since the beginning of these servers, and has been virtually unplayable for much of the last 2 months (since Opentransit's maintainance on Oct 7th, when the current problems all began)

GOAs choices, GOAs mistakes: GOAs problem. Whether they can sort it out directly or they have to communicate with their ISP to have the problems fixed is not something we should be concerned about: currently they are simply not providing the service we're paying for.

Yesterday was bad, today is significantly worse.

aye! ive already seen several ppl dumping all their chars stuff in goth quitting because of this lag... so something has to be done quick or daoc will go from a mmorpg to a rpg where the only players are the ppl who have [DEV] behind their name...

If OT cant detect a flaw withing their OWN server structure then you should be considering moving along from such an incompetent company.

There are currently 309 people on Excalibur, at prime-time on a weekend. I would expect there to be well over 1,000, and nearer to 1,500, on there right now. This lag is driving people away from the game, plain and simple, and it must be fixed soon. For a major ISP/network provider such as Opentransit to be so utterly incapable of tracking down and correcting their own mistakes (system was fine until OT's infamous 'maintenance', since when it has been horrible) is verging on criminally negligent. Opentransit are so bad they actually make British Telecom look good, and I can't think of a much more damning statement than that. I wonder how much money Opentransit are costing GOA in lost subscribers?

I should probably clarify my earlier statement - I will never play another game hosted by GOA....if they still have Opentransit as their service provider.

agree, i can understand there are issues and that we must be patient but having lagspikes every 5 minutes (or less) leading to ld's. is simply unplayable. goa should demand that this is being solved asap, expecting customers who pay for a service to send in evidence of a prob thats crystalclear is over the top imo. Its not like the problem isnt clear or an odd ocurance. I always enjoyed daoc and think its sad that things are going the way they are now.

My feelings exactly - for fuck's sake, just how incompetent are OT that they can't see the manifest results of their own blundering attempts at maintenance?

Oct 9th at midnight was the "maintenance" by opentransit, almost 2 months and no improvement, patience can only last so long.

Hehe, no there is more than 309 people on excal svart, its just they changed the XML data and not only did it knock out third patrty statistic websites but also GOA's own Server status monitors on their website. Obvisously they havent modified them, expect it to be fixed when the roll of honour is rolled out

Same here, did a full clean up on the pc earlier, defrag, spybot, adaware..etc. All nice and clean sorted. I thought i would have a few hours on the game...nice and easy too. Just stood about using a Ballista in BG. Nothing too severe...i was getting 2 red squares about every 50 secs to 1 min...and lagging for about 10-15 secs a time. Then, LD. PLaying the game like this is unreal. I suppose, like others, i will just grit my teeth and carry on playing. But, the sooner they fix this problem the better.

Got sick of RvR after going LD 4-5 times in like an hour, worth to mention is that I had lag a bunch of times without going LD and it wasnt excatly fun.

Seriously I am thinking why the hell am I paying money for this? I mean ok its no fortune but regardless I am a student and my economy isnt the best and as of now I feel I am totally wasting my money on something that isnt even a bit fun.

We have, it was in the latest Friday News.
Have you run a pingplot to see where the lag is originating from? The people who have posted in the pingplot sticky thread about the lag this weekend suggest it's a couple of routers in Amsterdam and a router in Paris.

I understand it's frustrating playing under these conditions however we at Goa are doing as much as we can to sort it out. You have to realise that the issues are outside our network and as such we have to report them to the admins of the companies running the affected hubs and get them to act. Not easy unless you can prove to them that their equipment is causing a problem.

Req with all due respect for you GM's, soz have no respect left for GOA. What you're trying to do is sell us a car and saying "well the engine might be along somewhere in the near furture, but wtf do we know?"
Ping plots? no idea what it is, send me a pay check and ill look into and do the work you should be doing along side you, but dont fxxxxxing expect me to pay for a game and then have to work on the flow of it. im a customer (for now anyways) and you really need to do something and you need to do it now and stop blaming the shit on someone else, in my eyes you provide the service "DAoC" and i dont give a rats ass if its OT, GOA, someones dog or grandmother causing the problem, what I do care about is the company receiving my money (read GOA) fixing the stuff so i keep sending my money to you and be happy. You have had a fair share of time, now how about doing what we pay you to do?
its an outrages, GOA is the kinda company you read about in books explaining the way how NOT to treat customers.

doesnt matter if you pay 1 pence or 200 pund a month, GOA is charging for stuff, but very far from delivering what they should.
by rights, take them to court, you should probably be able to get refund as i dont recall seing anywhere on the game box - Comes with silly lag.

you would blame a plane company if their plae fell down although they didnt make the plane, same here, just a slightly smaller scale (thank god or we would have died years ago if we used GOA Air)

Seconded.

The one refusing to do anything to help himself, or even listen to what he has been told over and over and over again by other people.

That's you, by the way, since understanding what other people are saying appears to be a skill you lack.

Well, hard to believe but tonight is actually even worse than last night. After solid red lag and frozen in place for 10 seconds occurring at roughly 40 second intervals for 10 minutes, I went LD. And I never LD.

The game in its current implementation is totally unplayable, and if those useless ***** at Opentranshit are not made to sort out the problem they caused with their botched "maintenance" I will give serious thought to cancelling payment on both my GOA accounts and moving to the US servers. No matter whose fault it is, I will not pay for a service I cannot use. You can be fairly sure that a situation this bad would not have been allowed to go unfixed for so long in the US...I wonder are Mythic made aware of how bad things are for us over here?
