Hi :)

I would like to know what joysticks people have, as I am going to buy one very soon. I shall be using it for BF & Other flight sims, as well as the odd footy game :)

Thanks :)

I'm not a big joystick user, but bought one just for bf1942 flying (but haven't used it as much as id like cos of the hoardes of moronic wannabe pilot newbs who insist of shooting everyone who tries to get in a plane ;)). It's the logitech cordless one (silver in colour) and it's really very nice. Precise, loads of buttons and the design of the base is excellent, giving a very very sturdy, solid feel to the whole thing. Iirc, it was a tad on the pricey side however.

The Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick has served me well :)

I have the old MS Sidewinder as well. It might be a pro version, not sure any more. An excellent general purpose stick anyway - shame they've stopped making Sidewinders really.

You wont get this if you come to the Community Games! (tonight 2030 hrs, see http://forums.barrysworld.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58568 )

I use the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro. It's an old joystick, and I dont think they make these anymore. It certainly does me well for BF and any other flight sim you can think of :)

However, it does use a gameport, which means I have to fill a PCI slot with a soundcard, because my nForce2 mobo doesnt have a gameport connector :)

That's odd. what nForce2 mobo is it? My ASUS A7N8X Deluxe comes with a game port.

Tis an Abit NF7-S (Rev 2).

Just checked again, and nope, no gameport :(

Doesn't matter tho, makes no difference :)

Sidewinder (as for using it in BF1942 I find it almost impossible. Is there a way of changing the sensitivity?).

A friend had the force-feedback version TOP. Playing sturmovic with that was ace. :D

one of my mates has the exact same motherboard.

he bought one of these USB - gameport connector jobbies for his machine, works well.

cant remember who made it tho :( dataport or something.. it was a "special" one from maplins at the time.

i got a Thrustmaster Top Gun II Afterburner knocking about somewhere which i used for a while, hardly use it any more now tho.

Far too sensitive. I try to do a normal turn and land the plane upside down. I try a fast turn (bank in direction, pull up and turn rudder in the opposite direction - learn't from sturmovik) and I 'crash horribly'

I got a Saitek X45 ages ago...hardly used, but good fun. The problem with it is that I need a bigger desk for it, if you've seen one you'll know what I mean.

hehe, personally, I wish my joystick was more sensitive - makes dogfighting much more easier :)

There was this program I had (cant for the life of me remember the name, but I'll trawl thro hours of IRC logs to find it for you), wereby you can adjust the sensitivity of your joystick. Worked quite well.

XC.Emrys (old school wireplay quakeworld days) used to use a joystick for playing quakeworld (and he made a damn good job of it too). It was the weirdest thing i've seen .

A USB MS Sidewinder thingie.

Although, I don't use it very much.

(Just the occasional game of BF1942 and some flight sim stuff)

Seriously doubt they still make these, but the Gravis Analog Pro is the don of joysticks, if you can cope with the jokes about what it looks like.
