Having just finished yet another bloody problem with my programming, a month spent sorting one small problem (1 line of code in a mountain of it) which caused huge issues, I'm now happier then I have been for some time. :D

If my demeanour can change through work this much, it got me thinking... what do you lot do and how happy are you with what you do? Personally I'm unsure whether it's worth the rare large victories for the general annoyance of what I do...

I've never been happy with what I do, ever. I just like the paycheck. If I can get 6 months out of the contract I'm going to go for today it'll fund a round the world trip for a year or so. :)

Job itself makes me damn near suicidal tho :(

So at the moment, REALLy happy since my work includes sleeping late, staying up late, playing stuff and searching for a more meaningful job

Heading towards boredom myself in my job. I still enjoy my job at the moment but the early signs are there. Last time it happened it took me two years to finally do something about it so I am going to do some serious thinking in the new year. The problem is that we can't afford for me to do the sort of job I really want to do as my wife is just starting teacher training. I think I will end up having to sit it out for a few years.

I am fed up of the working inside, office environment, the same people, the same type of workload. I want something that is outside and varied. My ideal job pays sod all though, forest ranger.

I despise my job. It has paid well over the last 3 years, but now that's finished, as they have stopped all bonuses leaving mew with a basic poor wage. This is a precursor to redundancy, which can't come quick enough for me.

I like my job, I get to meet new people nearly every day, find out new things or ways of doing them and all customers are happy since we give them a good service. I get to cut things and learn a trade which even if I don't decide to continue with it will still be useful in further life as I can buy it un-cut and do it all myself.

I'm an Apprentice Butcher.

I also get to make bacon, and we have the best sausages in the world ever.

I talk to people every day too. Sometime they start crying, sometimes they scream and shout at me. It's great :(

On the other hand, your job sounds good. Mmm bacon :D

On the whole I love my job, its very fulfilling, humbling and I get great job satisfaction. I learn a lot from the children and families I look after and I get to 'enhance life to the max, when every moment counts!' (the hospice's tagline). On occasion it makes me sad, angry, upset or frustrated, but the good points far outweigh the bad.
I'm a childrens nurse in a childrens hospice.

Must be one of the most heart-wrenching jobs going.

I do a massive amount of different things from pumping out toilets on boats to filing the vat return, and everything in between. Today I got to work and opened up, checked email, answered them, had a coffee, went into the workshop rubbed down and varnished a load of fiddly bits which took most of the morning, had lunch, returned to the workshop and fitted a new impellor, drive belt, and engine mounts to an engine which I'll be refitting in the morning. I'll have a similar day tomorrow and friday this week except I'll have to do the wages on friday too. All of last week was spent in conference calls with a solicitor and preparing witness statements and evidence for a tribunal which was due to be running on Monday and Tuesday but has gone away now.

Some days I get great job satisfaction, other days I feel like jacking the whole thing in and getting a normal job working for someone else.

I am John's small intestine.

Oh no, wait, I run my own boatyard on the Norfolk Broads.

I'm jealous of those with job satisfaction, because I wish I had some. I long for a big piece of coding work to get my teeth into.

I should stop bl33ting about it and look for another job really.

Some days I feel satisfied but there are those days like today when I would like to fling myself off the balcony outside my bosses office... currently I think she would join me.

I reduce stuff, fill gaps in the shelf, investigate why things are out of stock and smile sweetly to the old ladies.

Who could not love doing that?!

I've been doing my job for the last 5 years and I still get job satisfaction out of it. It comes down to three things for me:
* My boss is 200 miles away on the end of a phone.
* I don't know where I'm going to be travelling to each morning.
* Sometimes I manage to resolve a problem that isn't in the manual by using my initiative.

For instance, today I drove to Broughton to replace a non-functioning scanner and diagnose 2 touchscreen faults. I resolved 2 of the calls and ordered the part I need for the 3rd.
Next I drove to Porthmadog to replace a network laser printer.
After that I drove to Llandudno to diagnose a non-functioning chip and pin reader. It turns out the COM port on the till base was fried and the base unit needed replacing.

These were all retail stores that are ramping up sales in the lead-up to Christmas. I get to see immediately the effect my work has on a store's operation and that's one of the best parts of my job. :)

I love my job too, get to play with new technology and have access to some great datasets to test code on.

I'm pretty happy with my job. When I'm not skiving on the net or going down the pub for a long lunch I'm making little animations and messing about in studio. I have a good bit of creative control, projects keep getting bigger and more interesting and I work with some great people.

been working for a while as a fundraiser while i wait to go study and it's the most satisfying job i've ever done. some days you can be speaking to some grumpy fuckers but when it's a good charity and you've been getting way more pledgers than expected it's really good fun :] our team of 6 has raised £90,000 in the last 4 months and we all got invited to london to save the childrens HQ and got treated really well

I don't get much job satisfaction, i'm terminally bored with support and computers in general and dealing with idiots in management, and if it wasn't for the huge paycut i can't afford i'd go chop down trees for a living or get a proper job.

I bring two parties together, giving them both what they want, with a bit of negotiation and creative descriptions, but never anything underhand...

I am an estate agent ;p

Self employed now, earning fuck all really, but happy, stress free and happy to sit the recession out and get a proper job when they are actually available again.

I might add that the person I work with is a complete tool and I try really hard not to batter him to death with his own keyboard. Its starting to effect my work.

It gets to the point where I just want to get up and walk out sometimes, he is utterly fucking useless at his job and spends most of his time huffing and puffing, shouting at his computer or asking everyone else in the office how to do simple things, like copy someone in on an email or select a different printer, the sort of thing a 5 year old knows how to do. When you do explain something to him he just grunts and mumbles, you know he hasn't taken on anything you say. The boss thinks its all a big laugh though so nothing will get done about him.

i enjoy my job. it seems a lot less 'linear' than some of the things my friends do, which means i can think about stuff big picture a lot more (even though im relatively junior). its pretty difficult for that reason too but id prefer that to being bored off my face. and its technical too so lots to get my teeth into.

I was a sysadmin for 2 years after coming out of University. No fucking job satisfaction there, so I'm now 1 month into a 9 month trip round the world. :)

It is hell but the manager loves me, lets me have holiday without complaint and offers any hours to me first (because the rest of the employees can just about write their names).

i got the degree then fucked up big time going for the easy money in IT, became quite good at it, got more money, then got very bored of it but have too many outgoings to go back and do my masters or retrain to do something more satisfying. TBH i mainly hate my current job due to a twatty manager who came on board 18 months ago, but the job market is tighter than a gnats chuff at the moment so moving to something less annoying is proving difficult.

Quite happy with mine. Yeah, the pay is shit ($75 post tax for the entire month of September), the 'boss' is a bit of a dick, and it's very much weather dependent.

But, I'm getting to do something that I love. And the monthly earnings will start to increase over the Summer + when I get more students (only been doing it since the start of Sept).
