Such a shame that we couldn't buy them back and start building cars again in this country whislt making it a viable business. :(

seems the 1Billion for this was spent wisely on Northern Rock... wasn't is 25Billion spent on that?

its a massive shame India has bought it, but then they won't want to let the company fail, i just have a bad feeling all the working is going to move out there once they see how complacent UK workers are :(

Don't know much about the buyer though...

Can you imagine if all Land Rover and Jag showrooms are filled with indians? The hilarity would be soooooo good.

What the fuck are you on about? Jaguar and Land Rover have been owned by Ford for the last 15 years. Can you imagine if all Land Rover and Jag showrooms were filled with Americans? The hilarity would be soooooo good. No?

Racist much? People are dumb, anyway from a sensible point of view, its not surprising, the company, Tata, that has bought them is a massive conglomerate that recently bought Corus (British Steel), If it hadn't been them it would have been a Chinese or Russian company.

I guess I should have known you would say TATA and then come back.
You should stop teasing us like that.

Tata (amongst other things) steel, is actually hugely successful. Iirc the original Tata recently passed away? I seem to remember watching an interview with him (or someone from the company) when they were looking at (the Dutch part of) Corus, and them specifically mentioning they wanted to get into cars. In fact, iirc they've actually released a sub 1k$ car specifically for the Asian/Indian market I seem to recall?

Yeah, the Nano. Tata have actually been in the car business for a long time, usually as a licencee (Suzukis and Merc engines), as well as a series of shit 4x4s and a big bus business. They're buying Jag/LR for fast access to western markets but also for their engineering expertese. Unfortunately, in the case of the latter these "skills transfers" never seem to work out properly (look at the Rover/Nanjing debacle, or Lotus-Proton). Of course this means Jag, and particularly LR, have preferential access to a HUGE developing market with a burgeoning middle class.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out; I think Jag had finally turned the corner with the XF, and LR has a great range, but they both need downsized, low C02 models to survive in western markets. Tata don't have the skills to deliver that, but they do have the money, but they'll be aware of just how much cash Ford pissed away on Jaguar in particular (although I think Ford mismanaged Jaguar rather than there being anything intrinsically wrong with Jags; if the Ford-era Jags hadn't been saddled with the styling equivalents of thatched roofs and bowler hats, they'd have probably sold by the bucketload). Interesting times to be in the car biz.

They also own Tetley Tea, so that makes this all fine, in my book.

:)

Also they were the preferred bid by the Union. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not.

Nope, and I think the 'emperors new clothes' romantic oldé bollock talking over the XJS is even worse.

"It's shite, but you know it's such a remarkable thing of beauty" - no, it's shite.

Its a nice car, though some of the Jags look suspicisously like Rover 75s to me.

The Land Rover is still the best off-road car in the world for muddy conditions.

Nope. Its the kind of car Jaguar should have stopped designing 30 years ago. If they'd evolved their design language earlier they wouldn't be getting bought out now.

Nothing to do with design tbh. Lots to do with the abortion that was BL.
