I have to decide this weekend whether to flash stock Android 403 and then root it, or flash it with Resurrection Remix (which is a mix of CM9, official firmware, and some others - supposed to be very good)
Or the third option which is to stop over-analysing it and just do it you big girl. You can do a complete backup with CWM before you flash a new OS anyway, so you can do what you like and then restore a backup if it goes tits up.
I think CM9 is fantastic tbh, I'm not sure how it differs from vanilla ICS but it's a lot slicker and nicer than Gingerbread. Things like full encryption are very welcome. Face unlock is a useless gimmick, though.
