Asbtinence is a safer method than condoms

Really? I mean really?

It's just not realistic.

Humans are sexual. Telling ignorant people that the only known barrier to infection is ineffective and the only thing they can do is abstain kills people.

The catholic church knows this and, crucially, wouldn't be allowed to get away with it in the West. But what the west don't know...

The leader of the cult has hidden child abuse and protected kiddie fiddlers. He should be brought to justice.
i dont think he can be taken to court. iirc the Vatican is a sovereign state and he's got immunity that surpasses even the president of the USA.

Personally I reckon it's alot easier for a female to abstain.

think its down to the person.

me for instance haven't been laid for ~9 years and i cant say i miss it anymore :)

i just value my freedome to much to get me a new one....

or in other words, i'm just to fucking lazy...

...or scared, now? :fluffle:

There's lots of reasons people don't have sex, but asking others to be like that is ignorance of the highest order. I detest the inability of the church to understand human nature.

But then I detest the whole institution, so I guess I shouldn't be disappointed when it continues to act in the way I always expect :(

Topical! :)

I just watched a thang on the news where they're bashing catholics in Africa for trying to stop condom distribution programs. One guy tried to justify this action by saying for some people condom use was "challenging" and possibly "dangerous".

Lol! :D

If it's "challenging" and "possibly dangerous" then i'd be led to believe they may not be using them correctly, although i'm not entirely sure how you could be so confused about their use that you make them "dangerous"

The pope is pre-emptively claiming immunity to prosecution as head of state.

Classy.

I wouldn't for one moment attempt to provide excuse for what the Catholic Church is responsible for, I'm not a particularly great fan of "organised religion", but what strikes me about these stories, particularly when the secularists get on board, is how mercilessly they attack Christian groups, yet other religions seem to get a free pass in the western media even for more recent situations, so the whole idea of secularism defeats me, it's really just another political institution doing it's Christian-bashing duty.

When other religions commit violent acts, we're all too ready to point out that it happens in Christianity too, but it's a different situation when Christianity is in the spotlight, other gods don't get a mention.

lolwat.

What cave have you been living in Xane? Have you been bunking with Osama in rural Pakistan?

Remember the muslim cartoon protests/etc? 9/11? London bombings?

Also, the key difference between the Madrasa you linked and the Catholic church is that it seems endemic in the Catholic church and senior members across the board have tried to cover it up - the level and scale of abuse is just ridiculous to compare to 1 incident in a Muslim Madrasa.

It's in EVERY COUNTRY.

America, Brazil, Ireland, England, Germany, to name but a few where the same pattern of abuse and coverup+protection has occurred - if a mainstream group from any religion did this it would be lambasted equally.

Yes, the excuses about how this is "cultural", or because of The West's support of Israel, etc, nothing to do with religion.

It's endemic in Islam, and happening right now, the difference is it's not generally covered by mainstream media, and if it is (3 links) there's no certainly no continual attention like the Catholic Church gets.

You're the one living under a rock if you think Madrassas are places of peace and tranquillity, ffs they're based on 7th century principles !

Tbh that probably has more to do with the fact that we live in a country that is deemed to be Christian and as such Christianity is always gonna have more of a focus when it comes to discussions about religion. If we were a muslim country then i'd expect Islam would get a lot more coverage and you'd hear little about Christianity

What?
Excuses for what?

Everything I mentioned I was blaming on muslim nutjobs, not anything cultural.

I have no idea what strange point you're trying to push here.

Right, but there is no centralisation.
The catholic church is a global institution that claims it's for the greater good and yet is showing it's hypocrisy and insanity.

Madrasas on the other hand are just insane, there isn't any global superstructure and there isn't any pretension of sanity.

That this is all really anti-papist posturing, if you are against religious child abuse, happening now, then you're after the wrong religion. Most of these allegations are decades old, Catholicism has cleaned up its act a lot since, Catholic schools produced the best results in this country without resorting to abuse - and a lot of their pupils are Muslim !

I don't think Pope should get left off the hook, though, but it seems to me other religions are, and that's what's so bloody awful.

Oh, so that makes it all right then, carry on beating Mr Imam.

Went to one. One of the teachers was suddenly taken off duty and put on permanent sabbatical. They achieved good results with an iron fist and oodles of religious guilt.

Thoroughly horrid.

in a way probably, but primarily not that interested in the "work" required to maintain a relationship.

Find the right bird and it's not that hard work. If you're working too hard then it's wrong. Probably :)

But this thread is about Catholics. If I can rise to the bait a little though, secular organisations attack islam when it's exponents are naughty all the time.

My point is that other religions don't get half the coverage, yet child abuse of all kinds is far more rampant in non-Christian "culture", along with domestic violence, polygamy, child marriage, "honour killing", slavery, and it's happening right now, not decades ago, and in this country too.

Most secularists and humanists are basically cowards, the fact is that criticism of Christians doesn't generally result in a serious death threat, that's the real reason why it gets the majority of the attention, it's nothing more than ineffective posturing, the lame excuse is not to be "insensitive" to religious minorities.

Christian dominance is virtually non-existent in Western society now, its a huge pointless exercise bashing it to this extent, when the real threats from religion to our laws and liberty are looming from other sources.

When Diddy Cameron opines on marriage tax breaks the secular response is overwhelming, far more compared to other loopy religious exceptions.

There's no way I believe this Catholic incident should be downplayed, but ignoring all the others is almost criminal in itself.

Its this kind of flawed moral equivalence that ensures the Catholic Church will never be free from scandal.

Its not enough to say dont criticise us because others do evil too - its like a rapist appealing to be let off because other rapists exist in the world.

Actually Nile have 2 songs railing against the idiocies of Islam on their latest LP which makes a change from the usual anti-christian death metal :)

Nice ressurect :)

I remember reading an article in new scientist a while ago that said something along the lines of the more devout christian fundamentalist a state is, the higher the level of pay-for porn subscriptions.

Me thinks the gay-bashing pastor doth protest too much :D

I doubt he's got a calendar up his arse tbh.

Nope, no i don't. An old raddish, some yarn and a hut for a weetabo, but no calendar :D

Will; no i don't read dates, usually if it's on the front page, it's ok to post on it without some wanker going "ololol you posted on old thread". Not like i resurrected it

Not to mention it's still a relevant answer, but guess things are no longer relevant after a week.

Presumably because it's immoral to steal porn from the 'net.
