I must say, fuck spiders, and this thread. I love Sweden for not being habitat to those f*ckers with healthbars.

I have no problem with spiders.
Everyone else in the house can't stand them, so I'm the designated removal expert. I just put a glass over them, piece of paper or card, take them outside and drop them at the end of the garden. They have their place... and that place it outside the house. :)

As long as they stay up in the corner of the room, I let them stay a bit.

I know they can do that. It's not really naturally flying, I suppose you could more aptly name it ballooning : they emit a bunch of light thread and it gets caught by the wind lifting them away. That vid is really interesting because it seems the spider is completely in control of what it is doing, which to me is awesome.

I remember posting up a funnel web spider about a year or two ago, how those fuckers play dead so when you go near it, they attack you.

I don't like jumping spiders either, something about their quickness and ability to jump on you which, well, scares the shit out of me...

This video makes me LOL so hard though, every single time i watch it...

that's what I love about them: the instant movement! everything you see is the "end" of the movement, not anything in between. SO awesome :D

My mate is terrified of them. He's a big gym head aswell. Screams like a schoolgirl.

I think the one I killed was a giant house spider, quite common in the uk apparently tho not really seen around where I live.

this is pretty much what the cunt looked like tho slightly smaller

A friend of mine is Australian. She was once driving down a busy motorway in the fast lane when she saw a massive spider run across the passenger seat and into the back. Apparently the time between finding out there's a huge spider somewhere in your car and being able to pull over safely to get rid of it passes very slowly indeed.

I don't like spiders. I pretend I'm not too bothered and force myself to handle the smaller ones because I like animals and try not to let my irrational fears get in the way of that. But then if they make one wrong move I panic and get all smashy on them.

This is the insect that used to scare me as a kid from a mere illustration - arthopleura - the Carboniferous giant millipede - up to 8' long...

That's nothing that a bottle of WD40 and a lighter won't solve, Access ;)

Edit: Nice mock up ryn. Shame they're extinct. That from walking with dino's or summat? :)

Even with some WD40 and my trusty zippo I would want to get too close to one of these.

Spiders do freak me out slightly. It's one of those irrational reactions I just can't help. I know they can't hurt me etc etc but I still can't help getting out the nearest flammable aerosol + box of matches and going all Vietnam on their asses.

Bee's & Wasp's on the other hand I'm perfectly okay with. When I was younger I lived in an area that used to get a lot of bee nest migrations during the summer and got swarmed three times that I remember. When I say swarmed I mean standing in a field with 50,000+ bees covering you and being unable to see more than a meter in front of you there were so many in the air. I just stood still, let them do their thing and never got stung once. It was all the people who panicked, ran away and tried to swat them that got stung ... lots :D

I sleep with my window open most of the year, when all the spiders are about i often wake up to find them dangling above my bed, i'm not especially bothered by them but it always makes me wonder if any drop all the way down onto me in my sleep and that freaks me out slightly. I just shut them in a hardback book and put it back on the shelf :p

Millipedes aren't insects. Neither are spiders for that matter.

No but they are all arthropods - the popular usage of the word insect is a lot wider than the scientific usage.

Ah yeah the wasp spider, seen that video.

I remember about 15-20 years ago a TV show called "Sliders" being on. They had the horrid things known as SPIDERWASPS. My worst fear ever.

Not forgetting that movie "Arachnaphobia". Without fail always used to be on during the fuckin school holidays when we'd be out at some campsite in the middle of nowhere.

Sliders was your typical 90's American Sci-fi show. Entertaining without being too heavy on the Science. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was a fun show and the first two seasons were pretty good but it went to shit after that with the cast changes.

I still remember the best episode where they actually got home but never realised it - damn that oiled gate!
