Well I got home to find that a package I was waiting for arrived at my house whilst no one was in, so it was bought back to the office place (delivered by DHL)

DHL left the little note saying to ring them at such and such time, they said if I rang before 7:30pm tonight then my item would be delivered tomorrow. I rang non-stop between 4pm and 7:30pm and 1/2 the time it was engaged, and the other 1/2 it just rang continously until I got a message saying no one is on the other line. The 1 time someone from DHL did pick the phone up it was immediatly put back down.

Isn't that a bit lame for a "proper" company? Now I won't get my package tomorrow, and probably not saturday either if there shitty customer service is anything to go by.

Call their national line, you get much better service. You were probably routed or phoned the local branch direct, it would have been full of rednecks.

Friends of mine came back from a weeks holiday recently to find a note from a delivery driver.

'I tried to deliver today but you were out, so I left the parcel in your green [recycling] dustbin'

Only problem was that the bin had been emptied between him leaving it and them getting home.

In fact it was just some shit from QVC, which would no doubt have ended up being recycled sooner rather than later anyway, so it just cut out the middle man.

They actually had shitloads of problems getting anyone to admit liability tho, QVC said it was the delivery companies fault (clearly) but they tried to say it was QVC's fault, dunno how exactly. The driver tried saying he'd left it somewhere else entirely. Fortunately for them, and unluckily for the driver, they'd kept the note :)

I did that, it was a bloody robot. Oh well the robot said it should be delivered tomorrow. Still no answer from the number on the card, says they're at the phones from 8am-7:30pm, I tried 4-7:30pm last night and 8am to 9pm today.

The other week a package arrived from GAME and the postman had left it on the floor in front of my front door!!! Luckily my front door is hidden away from the main road, but many people walk past it each day. Bloody Royal Mail.

But my worst grip has to be with City Link. I hate the fact that if you miss a delivery, the only way to get your package is to take a day of work. They only redeliver between 9:00-17:00 and don't deliver on weekends. I was told to go to their depot to pick it up. This would be fine, if only their dearest depot wasn't in Hemel Hempstead, when I live in Luton and have no access to a car.

Missing a package usually involves a week of me having to phone the original sender and persuding them to deliver it to another address( i.e. work). Something that you can't usually do on your first order. So if I order something from a new company that use City Link as their courier, I'm pretty much screwed unless I take that day off work :( </rant>

It's definitely a sign of how messed up consignments are, even in todays heady times of new technology etc.

It seems a lot of Internet sites will only deliver to your billing address, which in my case is obviously my home. Given that I (and most people I'd imagine) actually work - do these companies not realise how much of an inconvenience this is? I appreciate there are security reasons why they do this - but getting stuff delivered to my house when I'm at work is a major ballache. Sometimes stuff gets left with the neighbours, other times - as mentioned above - it gets taken back to some far-fetched depot to be picked up at your own (in)convenience, etc. It's completely random.

I've got some stuff coming from the States, being delivered to my home (again, no choice). Fuck knows where that'll end up, especially if it has some form of Customs duty to be paid.

That isnt necessarily true about City Link. I use them for our company. They do deliver on Saturdays and you can arrange delivery after 5.00 pm also. The problem is that they will not leave it with anyone else or forward to another address unless the sender gives them permission. Technically the parcel still belongs to the sender until the buyer i.e you sign for it at the address you specified.

Anywho. A company called Postvan have to be the worst courier on the planet. They are for all intents & purposes a call centre who use City Link, Royal Mail, DHL as courieres. They have no fleet of their own. 8 failed collections and 6 months to get a refund :(

Most shops would cite these examples as one of the reasons why buying things from them is better.

Ask them to use the post office, in my experience they're quick, reliable (well mostly), and they will store the item at the local depot. You can also phone them and arrange to leave it with a neighbour, they at least have that much common sense.

Well a seperate item, from the same company, arrived today. Luckily I was in, but they never bought the item which the letter was left for with it. I did get through to the main office and told the robot my ID number etc and he said it would arrive as soon as possible.

My local number which I was told to phone is still not picking up.

Most delivery services seem to totally fuck up at times, my favourite is the way in which City Link never leave a card telling me that they've left my package next door.

The fact that delivery companies deliver parcels between 8am to 5pm, ironically the time that most people are at work, and never at the weekends has and always will be a annoying problem.

Of course I decide when I'm in and when I'm out, so I don't really have that problem. I am however a lazy bastard, and often when the doorbell rings in the morning it will be the postman with a parcel. I'm too lazy to get up, so I just go to the post office later, and pick it up.

Last year my company ran a feasibility study on an internet 'drop-off stop' service. Basically packages would be left at points ready to be picked up people who won't be in during the day. The points would be attached to garages and supermarkets and the like.

The figures didn't justify investment in the scheme, especially after the internet companies and locales took their slice. A shame really as there does seem to be an increasing need for this sort of service.

Still havn't got my second parcel, the one that was meant to arrive before the one I actually got. Still no reply from either of the 2 DHL phone numbers they left me either. I even complained to head office and emailed the head office type person who told me to leave my details and she would make sure it was delivered.

I ordered some stuff from Amazon, and the billing address was my term time address in Bournemouth.

Then I got enother email saying all my stuff had been sent to Surrey - my parrents house.

FFS!

Tho getting stuff sent to work is not neccesarily better either... I remember a guy at work who ordered a pc from OCUK, and it all arrived at the office at 9.30AM.

He didn't drive, so had to drive his motorbike home, get a taxi back to the office, and then back home again.
