nope they are not safe, i was in one and all of a sudden the mobs turned red con

No, other players can enter and attack you. Watch for a message saying "the area has been adjusted for 4 lvl xx players (not the one u get when you enter). This means another player has entered. Another give away, as Bah says, is the con of the mobs u are fighting increases, say from blue/yellow to orange/red.
