Supposedly you can get them factory unlocked from US? If so what are the downsides? I mean, dont they use EDGE for internet rather than 3G, so that would mean you can't take advantage of fast internet in UK so no youtube/googlemaps/webbrowsing?

How long is it until they hit the UK, maybe I should just wait..

iPhones are about 2-3 years behind the technology your current phone uses.

They are merely a shit piece of technology wrapped up in a nice piece of plastic with a glass front and an apple logo.

What do you mean by that? My current phone looks like crap when I browse webpages.. because the screens tiny so need to use "mobile" sites..

I understand the camera is only 2 megapixel. but the interface seems way better than my phones and it looks much more responsive in demos than mine is. Mine plays videos but certainly not in the size and quality that the iphone does.

Apart from the camera I dont see anything else?

Um, ok

you think browsing is shit on your existing phone, the iPhone only supports gprs, gee. Good luck. No 3g capability whatsoever.

Did I mention bluetooth?

YouTube - Sony Ericsson W960i Preview

Video of it in action. Makes my W950's interface look clunk and makes the N95 look like a brick. Only bricks do as they're meant to without crashing, something the N95 is incapable of. The K850 is worth checking out too, less music capability but a 5Mp camera.

I've been a Nokia user since the first brick on Orange.Earlier this year I changed to the Sony Ericsson K800i.

Absolutely love it. Will certainly be looking at SE next year when my contract expires. I only have one issue which is that I cannot find a setting to override the camera slide cover on the back of the phone. Sometimes I can slide it across and the camera turns on, ARGH!!

Tom Tom will run on the W960, and as mentioned the P1. However SE are also bringing out the GPS enabler soon, which is basically a GPS reciever thingy in a headset. Plug it into the bottom of your phone (it'll work on anything from the K800i onwards), the applet loads on your phone and you have Sat-nav. The W960 should be out at the end of the year, bit earlier for the K850.

Also heard SE have just patented the PSP Phone. Hmmm....

Well to change teh car kit I'm looking at at least £100 or so, and I really can't be bothered :) If I stick with Nokia, all I have to change is the cradle depending on which phone I get. ATM I'm on a Nokia N73, which does pretty much everything I want.

The N95 has a built in GPS receiver :) Dunno what chipset though.

To be fair, the iPhone does have a lovely looking UI, but as pointed out, no 3G, no point.

It's basically like the headset you get with Walkman phones, but the volume control halfway up has a GPS reciever in it. When you plug it in, a full navigation program opens and you can choose from voice or text commands. You can also track speed and route, and the headset has a 3.5mm jack adaptor so you can use your own headphones. The applet is Java based so works on all SE phones with the latest version, K800i included. I assume the maps are loaded onto a memory card. No word yet on if it'll be availible here, but as the UK are one of SE's biggest markets I'd be surprised if it wasn't. I plan on getting one if possible, so I can hook it up to my car stereo and get the direction through that.

It does. It's also rubbish. Always loses the satellites and takes years to get them back, if it hasn't crashed in the meantime.

Heh, bods you are such a broken record :) But unfortunately you are right about the n95. The k850i looks fantastic, I have a walkman phone now and I hardly ever use the music functions so the 5mp camera is more of a draw for me.

My K800i is lovely - and the camera is the best part of it, ideal for what I need. It texts, it calls and it doesnt break when a gnat farts near it, ala Apple.

According to El Reg, the Euro iPhone will be announced on Monday; it will have 3G, but in the UK its Voda and T-Mobile only. Still no bluetooth though (although there is a bluetooth accessory), although apparently the Wi-fi mode works really well. Out by Christmas.
