I think its obvious that you havent done anything with your life if a holiday in india is what makes life worth living to you.

How about that essay now?

You are a sum of your experiences, really its that simple.

Travelling, sure, is a great idea. But when laddey implies he want's to stop smoking, it's not the best advice to tell him to go and smoke lots of pot. Kinda defeats the object of him making a clean start/break or whatever.

I would, too, say go travelling laddey.

smoking pot in India is not like smoking pot in the UK :)

50 million Sadhus would disagree ! yes the travelling is more important, arriving in Delhi for the first time I can only equate to arriving in Mos Isley - mindfucks are what its all about.

I couldnt agree more. And therefore if your greatest experience is a holiday in india (even one with pot included) that means you're not that cool.

I know i'll regret this but...what has master gorb done lately that makes life worth living to you?

Nothing that i could boast with on internet forums but to name a few: Skydiving and diving.

Now, im not saying extreme sports are the best way to go but im still in school which means that my chances of doing extraordinary things are quite limited But once im done with that i intend to go peacekeeping. After that, dont know.

travelling can turn you into a total different person. If he has the money, he should try that really. Just fly to lets say prague. and from there on, just move from place to place, you'll meet plenty of people, have a blast. and it will change your view on the world for sure.

you can join the navy after that.

Incase i gave the wrong impression: Traveling is a great idea and i think everyone should do it as much as they can. Im just saying that that alone wont cure the feeling that_think_laddey has. I know it didnt help me.

Intentions mean crap all to be honest, yes i know, work and thy shall recieve, but it's not always that simple. Life'll teach you that ;)

I'm not saying you were being a cock, not at all, and don't take it as argumentative, i'm just saying that if skydiving and diving mean something to you, an india trip with weed, for regular folk, mean more on an unbiased scale.

Not that i'd smoke pot, but you know.

Im not saying everyone should skydive or else they're not living properly. Just pointed out that i have done_something_. Nor am i saying that a trip to india wouldnt be a good idea. Just that i doubt that it'll be enough.

edit: bugz what kind of a person did you think i was? -.-

Im not saying its a boring and predictable holiday. Im saying its a holiday. Comparable to my skydiving - cool, definately worth it, but it just doesnt solve anything.

I can relate with laddey here as im quite sure we're in similar situation. I dont want a boring desk job with nothing else to look forward to than weekends out, love, marriage and the occasional trip to india or wherever. Sure being in India might be great, but you still have to come back home and the next time probably wont be that great.

I'm going to brig you down a bit now, don't take offense.

About 80% of people(totally random number to make a point) end up in that deskjob :D

the funny thing is, its probably the 80% of people who say 'I don't want to end up in a desk-job' who end up in a desk-job :D

I think it's pretty narrow minded to suggest holidays or travelling dosen't solve anything, and if you had done anything like that I think you would not be making such statements.

I disagree dude. It's the scale of things you have to look at here. Doing something like that will avail you a serious amount of experience and perhaps change your outlook on life dramatically. It may be a "holiday", but don't think it's in the same ballpark as 10 days in Benidorm because it most certainly will not be.

Also, just to touch briefly on things that seem boring....it's only boring if you let it be you know. Sure, I admit my sitting at a desk right now admining 2000 servers isn't in the same scale as wildcatting or fishing for crab in the Bearings Sea, but hey, I make my own fun, and this job lets me do the things I want to do. Good enough for me!

I know it does but its just not enough. Not for me anyway, and judging from what laddey has been writing here i doubt it is for him either. I could be wrong though. Maybe its just a premature middle age crisis. :ninja:

roflcopter.

your still in school the only travelling you have done with your parents/guardians.

by the time I was 16 I was lucky enough to have travelled to lots of different countries thanks to my parents. Sorry, it does not count. Being a >child< as you are, is not quite the same as being an adult venturing and immersing into a totally alien culture. Also, you simply cannot compare jumping out of a plane to something like a trip across a sub-continent.

like lots here, im old enough to be your dad. Im pretty sure people will look at you in a totally different light now. An awful lot of your blinkered attitude & paranoia has just been explained away - your a kid !.

bravo tbh. keep posting & all that, at the very least you are developing some life skills here on FH. Im sure fhot ppl could explain what they are. :m00:

I don't know mate. I'm not aware of your age, but tbh I'd scrape some money together and go backpack round Australia or places in Asia / South America for a few months and then come back to see me again.

Ofc don't misread me into thinking you have to travel to be happy because that's not the case for everyone, but hey, it's an experience and you get to see something of the world. Get your kicks elsewhere if that's what makes you happy tbh. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't scorn getting those kicks or think it's impossible to do something you want. Sometimes it just takes a little longer or you'll have to do something else first, but once you get your path clear then all is well.

My life is actually well set achievement wise, i've elped people, strangers or not, i've made people laugh(hell, most on this forum have earned a giggle at one time or other) and i've tried my best to be a nice guy in real life, even to an extent that some might call "taking a bullet", since i put personal things on the backburner if need really be.

I'd say that contributes to a hefty effect and a nice lil "matter" in the whole grand of schemes :D

And what makes you think i havent travelled without my parents? :p Secondly, talking about my age when its clear you dont have much to say just makes you look like a douchebag. And i think it has been proven over and over again that your age doesnt make you a wiser person than me.

Holidays are holidays. Great fun, sometimes really exiting and guaranteed to make you a wiser person, but (for me) not enough. And saying that a trip to india is even comparable to 5 years in the navy is just laughable.

I'll make this perfectly clear now: Everyone do what fits them. If a trip to India is what makes the days fly by faster at the office then go for it. But for me, and judging from what laddey is writing here, for him aswell, thats not enough. (which is why i brought this up, as this thread is/or atleast used to be about him)

Im 18. Im finishing school in a couple of months. Then im off to the army. (which btw is mandatory in Finland) Once im done with that i'll put in my application for peacekeeping and while waiting for that traveling is probably what i'll do.
