As things stand though, we give out TOO MUCH money via state benefits. People take the piss and see no incentive to work. And why would they? Especially people that have "bad backs" (haha easiest way to fake DLA claims is with that). They get their income support/incapacity. DLA Care, DLA Mobility(including possibly a free new car every 2-3yrs), their rent and their council tax. Often I see people in the excess of 1.5k a month in benefits. Makes me wonder why I struggle to get along with what I earn when they earn near enough the same by sitting on their arse.

Thats perfectly true for some people (scroungers, spongers, fraudsters, and so on). There are plenty of people out there with real genuine needs. I agree the benefits administration is a joke here in the UK but in all honesty, it must be a real nightmare to run. You need a backbones of rules and procedures, and each case needs to be considered separately and on its relative merits. But as I have mentioned before there's a real lack of common sense or insight. Those who have a genuine need for benefit are quizzed to the nth degree to justify why they should continue to receive benefit; while others who are milking the system for what they can get seem to get away scott free.

I think there are a number of European countries who have social security infrastructure which is run a hell of a lot better. We could do a lot worse than research how such systems work, and undertake a feasability analysis as to whether such systems could work over here. Maybe its a futile exercise, because so many people are just too lazy to help themselves and prefer instead to be spoonfed by the state. Such ambivalent cultural institutionalisation is sadly endemic in British working class society. The minority tars the brush of the majority.

What pisses me off is that i worked for almost 7 years, paid taxes(that they use to pay the social help with), and i basically get sh*t all help when i fall.

That's the f*cked up part.

Sure, keep the cash away from people who do f*ck all about it, but if you're honestly in trouble, you're suddenly some money grabbing scum to them.

We all have to pay for stuff we want to do.

You mention EMA "Only" just covering food & travel? What else would you use it for? After all it's "education maintenance allowance" is it not? Clothing we have to buy ourselves anyway, maybe you should look at a pair of normal shoes rather than the £200 one's you've no doubt got you're spoilt little eyes on.

Failing at life? tehehe, can you Define your concept of what "Life" is, I'd be very much interested in knowing how I am failing at it..

EMA isn't like pocket money... it's not a "reward" for going to college, it's to pay for your food and travel... if it does that, however "barely" it is, then you shold be happy with that imo. I had to shell out £500 for my college course, and spend £5 a day getting into college and i never had any EMA or travel allowance...

Someone thrown their toys out the pram? You are the creator of a thread on a open forum, not the owner so be-fucking-have.

Clueless posting is what you do, I am writing from experince. Currently I have two older brothers studying at univeristy and a younger sister at secondary school, both my parents work and because of this I get the minimum loan for uni (around £3000 for the year - my accommodation is costing me £3100 approx. per year). I never got EMA or help with travel. Did I moan about it, no.

If buying food at college and travel is so expensive why don't you take a packed lunch - which you can quite easily do on £10 (even less) a week..

Toys out of my pram? Coming from a rather unintelligent lad? Hmmm.

Since you don't seem to understand the grasp of my first post, most of the post was based on the fact I couldn't believe they based it on if your parents work rather than actual income and that unemployed people instantly received it.

Then if you check my second post, you'd notice again, no whines but again frustration on my part for their incompetence.

Quite clearly Mey, you're a moron. Now gtfo :)

Also - for further help with this -> take a look at other people's post - they seem to have grasped it very easily! :)

So, you're trying to be sarcastic yet you have too much 'pride' to accept extra money.

What's that suppose to infer? That people who receive help instantly become of a lower-rank than you in the world?

Come on - get real. That's just part of having a rather ignorant way to live life.

You're completely in the wrong here Bugz from what I can see. You've been bitching from the first post that you don't get your handout. Just because the REASON you don't get it is because your mum works, doesn't explain why you still seem to think you "deserve" it.

I'd beleive you were just casually having a go at the "system" except that you actually took the trouble to e-mail the people and critisize the system and try and get the decision over-ruled. That suggests you actually have an interest in getting the money, and are not just irritated at the system.

I'll apologise if I'm wrong here, but your whole attitude in this thread strikes me as a young person (nothing wrong with that) trying to find something "mature" like money issues to complain about (technically nothing wrong with that). But where you fall down is failing to be open minded about what people are saying to you. So the system has a slight bias, and is unfair? It's not the first time in life that this will happen to you, and it's not the last.

If I remember rightly, there was a thread a while back where you were adamantly claiming that you would work hard all your life, and make your way through education and get a high paying job and life would be just peachy because you worked at it. Also, I remember several people (including myself) point out that life isn't that straightforward, and things pop up all the time that hamper us. Looks like we were right after all, and to be honest, if this is the most injustice you suffer in your life, consider yourself very lucky.

In the meantime, take heed of the things Mey and so on are saying, as he pointed out, he's speaking from personal experiance, something you don't have as of yet. His points were valid (if a little overly aggresive) and the better response would have been to absorb the message while ignoring the abuse :p Instead of mouthing off.

i r mature :drink:

I think people are completely missing the point here. For one, I am not moaning about the lack of transport. I can afford it and if needs be, I will pay for it. I made that clear already. Secondly, this thread wasn't made to 'throw my toys out the pram' or what-have-you. Infact, I somewhat hoped it would spark a discussion on the welfare system in the UK and how it is so fucked up (and for a while it did).

My e-mail and phone call was to try to appeal for the decision but that is because, even though I may not be in 'absolute need' of the transport - it would benefit me a fair bit and would open my doors for spending my money on other things - be it a social life or other school stuff.

And yes, i've worked my peachy lil ass off through the GCSEs and I did fuckin well. I will work my peachy lil ass off through the A-Levels regardless of free transport or not.

Lastly, when people with major attitude problems such as Mey enter a thread, I will reciprocate my attitude in the same way they present theirs. Mey came in with a 'i'm a fuck-head' attitude so I merely did the same back. Furthermore, Mey added about -5% of usefulness to this thread so I will not be heeding anything he said.

It's quite...scary when one or two on a forum cannot seem to catch the jist of a thread even though they is 4-5 pages before it full of discussion, small-talk banter and me trying to explain what I mean. Those one or two individuals may just be incredibly stupid then. I won't say any names :)

Anywho! Off to bed!

P.S -> I intend to grab some fillings tomorrow just because I can! :D

In which case, I'll put it to you that the welfare system is so messed up because people like you attempt to take more money than they need in order to pay for their social lives/other miscellaneous things that the majority of people pay for out of their own pocket.

You didn't "need" that money, so why try to take it? Simply because you thought you should be entitled to it? That shows an incredibly selfish attitude in my personal opinion.

P.S -> I intend to grab some fillings tomorrow just because I can!

Another gem. "Just because I can". And then you go around asking why the system is messed up. You can spell, and you can understand long words with the best of 'em Bugz, but your inability to think like a person of the maturity you attempt to emulate with your forum posts is a huge flashing light that I beleive everyone but yourself can see.

Well...f*ck...nothing to add really.

Those are the people who f*ck up my life, not getting the cash i need because of all the people freeloading off the system without ever working a day.

Sure, it's not the same as the ed.fund in the UK, but the principle works the same with social.

Have to say Bugz, you answered your own question. The people who take the cash when they don't need it, are the ones f*cking up the system.

well it's not hard to pick up a paper (no not the sun) or watch the news, depends on a little effort to increase ones knowledge

You seriously think newspapers are going to lay out all the rules. They summerise and point out the biggest issues that's about it. Every year I have to do tax returns on investments and property in UK, its a bloody knightmare as the rules change every year. This Tax year I finally gave up and handed it to an accountant. It's just not worth the hassle and takes too long to sort out.

DSS is just as bad. The rules are extremely complicated and vary a lot with circumstances. The DSS staff used to be given training on not telling people all the benefits they were entitled to. They only used to give details when asked directly about a certain type of benefit. My mother was civil servent for 20 years, 3 years with the DSS. In the end she got so fed up with the hypocracy of it she left altogether. Now, she helps people out in Citizens Advice Beureau. There are alot more details online now but its still a minefield.

So, don't try and tell me its all simple dealing with DSS or any Goverment body in the UK, it's not! They tie you up in red tape, constantly make out they never receive the letters/forms. Bloody National Ins still owe me 7.5K GBP for last 2 years of fighting them. Only last month did they finally agree to pay it back.

/rant off ;)

I'm not driving a Ferrari but I do ok thanks, work bloody hard for it as well. None of that pansy arsed 37 hours a week Euro stuff. ;)

Just pisses me off how long the Government Departments take to do anything. Took me a year and a half to get my Tax NT coded when I left the UK.

Bugz, just wait until you reach University. You may be able to get help with grants/bursaries, but you probably will end up paying for a large chunk of it yourself.

No doubt we'll be seeing a thread in 2 years time saying how unfair student tuition fees are... all because you have to pay them! :p

So, you're trying to be sarcastic
its not sarcasm, some of us live in the real world and have real bills to pay

yet you have too much 'pride' to accept extra money.
The difference between me and you? I dont intend to live my life on hand-outs if i can help it

What's that suppose to infer? That people who receive help instantly become of a lower-rank than you in the world?
Hardly, i have no qualms with people who NEED support recieving it,
The theiving bastards who don't need it and recieve it are, in my eyes, lower-rank than me in the world.
You can infer whatever you like from it to what i think of you, i really couldnt care less
