First off i cant believe this manager. He makes it sound as if the music industry (labels) is being treated unfair, in the way that they are entitled to the insane amount of money they earn on their bands, but nowadays are getting less (because of piracy). The band should get paid. The people who work for them should get paid (producers etc etc). Im not saying piracy is good or anything, but the labels are whining about less income, when in my eyes they arent entitled to anything. What do labels do? Supporting the band with money when they are making an album (probably costs a good deal of money to complete an album) and advertising. But in the end the band wouldnt need economic support when making an album if the label didnt get like 90% of the income from the album. And advertising music? Doesnt music sell itself? Think pandora.com, myspace, etc etc etc. Advertisement isnt necessary.
To me, labels are obsolete, and because of the internet and various other technologies its now possible to make music without them.
I guess im just pretty pissed off because a guy like him managing the worlds richest band (isnt it?), goes on to whine about not being rich enough.
He even tries to put the responsibility on the ISP's and the people who make programs like limewire and the likes... Now fuck off or get real. These are the facts: the way music gets sold today is outdated, and you will never ever be able to stop piracy. Accept that you cant make billions of dollars on music any longer.
Do as radiohead and ditch the label. Sell the music like they did with their last album. Worked great for all parts. Radiohead got rich! Internet record sales were skyhigh. Customers paid less, and had easy access to the music.
