Problem is Bullitt, the games industry in the UK is in a bit of a state atm. Things like Acclaim going tits up and countless smaller outfits dying means there's a serious glut of people on the market, most with a lot more experience than people like you who are fresh out of uni. Employers can afford to be quite picky because there are so many people about.Bullitt said:Yeah I was well aware that almost every teenager and his dog wants to be in the games industry, and that's why I went for the degree I did (Games Design) which has it's positives and negatives. I'm a jack of all trades (animate, texture, model, light, post production) yet not specialist in any. The course was fairly new and there weren't that many that graduated this year, however there is a huge wad of people now on the course behind me, so i'm kind of racing against time.
Only thing I can do at the mo is work on my portfolio and when Half-Life 2 is released I hope to do some mod work...raising my profile a bit and suchlike.
One thing that was suggested to us actually is freelance animation as apparantly it's great for cv's and getting 'around a bit'. Certainly something i'm looking into.
Really in this industry experience and knowing people counts for a hell of a lot more than degrees, it's just the way it is.
