I quit my new job this morning.

I've been there a week (really only 3 days - was off Wednesday and today), and already I was bored stiff - 10 hour days, and I was sitting about doing literally nothing for approximately 6 of those hours.

So I've decided to go back to my old job if I can, as agency staff working for the local Council.

It got me thinking though - what's the shortest amount of time you've worked in any job? Anybody beat me?

Technically 0 days :D

Got a job at the trafford centre cinema went through the three day induction (lots of watching films :D) and decided that I couldn't be arsed with finishing at 12:00-1:00 and spending 10 quid to get home for around 1:00-1:30

Well....my record is 1 day.

Had a job a few weeks back that I did for 3 weeks, I quit due to it being shit and extremely dodgy. I was right, they were on Watchdog this week.

I lasted 4 days in a job once, packing cleaning utensils into bags for the airport.
The full story of my behaviour is frankly too bad , or at least embarrasing for me, to tell on a public forum though :(

1 day.

Quit the job then took it back 4 weeks later. Which I then quit for a second time after only 5 weeks.

Now unemployed, shitting myself and applying for jobs instead of breathing.

not to trash u down m8 but by the sounds of it your a bit of a waster

youve only done the job 3 days then u take 2 days off

im assuming these are sick days? if so im amazed you would do that so soon into a job, and maybe you should have taken account of the fact that youve only been there a few days and your bound to be bored with all the orientation stuff they do with you

In my current place i did nothing but read manuals for the first 3 weeks

Actually, Oblimov, on Wednesday I was at the hospital with my wife, at the fertility clinic, as we've been trying to have a child for a year now, with no luck.

And I was off today because I'd already made my mind up to go back to my old job - which I have back, as I start again on Monday.

I shadowed the girl whose shifts I would be alternating with, and she was the same (IE bored and looking for work elsewhere). There was no orientation - I had the sum total of the job's duties learnt inside of a day. It was a very boring job, and for a person who likes to be kept busy in his work, it certainly wasn't something I would want to do for 48 hours a week, for less money than I had been on previously working 37 hours.

So button it please, and engage the brain cell first.

Take your foot out your mouth oblimov. Before you go diving in calling people wasters maybe you should hear a little background first.

I would of been a shitload more aggressive than Sar was just now.

Sar, if I had more time I would list ALL the jobs I have spent less time at. I'm not greatly employable. I was once "let go" after three hours.

My job isn't shit. Today I drove 1 mile to City's training ground, spend 30 minutes setting up for and interviewing Kevin Keegan, then drove 1 mile home. Win.

I resigned this morning. Feels fan fucking tastic. They tried to persuade me otherwise for 3 hours which made me chuckle too. I leave at the end of Feb, can't wait.

I can never actually tell what job you are doing, X. You seem to change every few weeks. ;)

I'm getting pretty pissed off with my job.

Fucking learnt that one of my buddies, an IT systems guy, is being made redundant because our in-house Accounting Systems Team is being disbanded and merged with the group IT function - outsourced to EDS.

This is all in the name of cost rationalisation - which to me is bollocks because of the wastage elsewhere in the company.

This cost control has meant that I could have severe resourcing issues in my team and, tbh, I am not working the constant 10 hour days again just because the fuckers think it'll save megabucks. They need to look at what I have been TOLD to achieve at a Corporate level and base it on that and not shitty Shared Services targets. I'm already being constantly tapped by recruitment consultants and will have no problem with leaving should I have to (after collecting my YE bonus of course ;) ).

I'm pissed about jobs and I haven't even started yet. Since graduating i've applied for hundreds of jobs, initially as a 3D artist at any games company as that's what my degree was in. They replied, mostly requiring 2 years experience (which I can't get because seemingly nobody hires without it).

Now i'm applying for local office monkey 9-5 type jobs to gain some cash whilst I work on my portfolio, again loads of applications and only one reply. Nobody fucking even gives you the time of day let alone the decency of a reply saying thanks but no thanks. I'm hammering out applications anywhere and everywhere that I am capable of doing the job...and nothing :(

hmm. I'm a unix god, and have been so for the past 5 years. before that I had a myriad of jobs, some short, some long. I'd say the shortest I've ever worked for a place was not at all, as I got sick well before I was scheduled to start there and they fired me before I was even better. still had to pay me wages for the duration though heh :)

The shortest amount of time I was at a job was 15 months. I'm now sitting here trying to work out whether that's good or bad.

Thinking is quite difficult at the moment though, we had Dave Pearce in our main room tonight and it was (and still is) a blinder... Most of the management are already drunk and we still have an hour to go before we close! :D

On a sidenote, I started working in a nightclub during my degree at Plymouth uni. I enjoyed the job so much I left uni and took it on full time. I'm undoubtably earning less than I would've done if I'd pursued my degree, but 3 years down the line I'm having a fucking great time and wouldn't go back for the world.

I've only had the one job, since I was 17. I may moan like hell about it, and its stressfull, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it - or I would have quit years ago.

That's because no one with any sense would employ someone with a degree.
