Well whats going to happen? Nothing.

Russia and Georgia may go to war, nothing will come of it because it'll be over in a day. I doubt Russia will be interested in Georgia itself, only the two disputed territories.

Both Sides have an obvious claim, and if NATO get involved which is what you seemed to be worried about, it's likely to go the same way as Kosovo, and Osettia and Akhbar or whatever it's called will be given independance or made into one Country.

Well first of all this is all a part of a much bigger picture. Cold war is back. And it might sound a little far fetched right now but this could escalate in to a much bigger problem.

I don't think so.

The only problem may lie in that NATO have made it clear before that they don't care what Russia think, and if they were to throw their weight around in Georgia it could be one to many fannyslaps for Putin who might go off on one.

The US army might get involved, but i don't think even Bush is that stupid.

Well the Russian Tanks have already made it over according to the guardian. War looking likely, but i can't see it lasting a long time with the size of the Russian Army.

You have to ask though... Would the Georgian goverment have the balls to do this if americans hadnt promised to back them up? Seems unlikely to me.

Anyways, i think the biggest thing about this is that cold war is definately back. And we all know what happened the last time.

I'm not so sure that's the case. I can't see the yanks getting involved.

Tomorrow's headlines:

"Georgian & Russian in bitch-slap cat-fights at olympic village"

Georgian coach quoted as saying "One our lads was making man-talk with one the russian blokes until he found out she was a woman. What do you expect with a moustache? It was their fault".

Or maybe not ;)

Either that or they are just suicidal.

Russia says 12 of its soldiers are dead, and separatists estimate that 1,400 civilians have died.

Unbelievable. 100 odd civilains to every soldier dead.

We should also remember that if the US leaves Georgia on its own it'll send a very strong message to other ex-soviet-wannabeNATO-countries such as Ukraine and Czech republic (which is supposed to host the US missile shield).

I doubt that the US can afford to sit this one out. They will intervene one way or another. (and honestly.... i think thats the plan -.-)

Oh what a surprise. Superpowers playing power politics over dwindling energy resources again.
