Sorry to hear that
it's not quite the same, but when i first got my tinnitus i was on the brink of going insane, didn't sleep for several days until i finally caved in and passed out somewhere, woke up and went through the same again. Things seemed pretty grim the first couple of months. But everyone has different ways of innitially dealing with something like a lifechanging injury/disease. I worked through it using hate and anger to keep going and laughter to stay on top.. may sound strange, but hate is a powerfull thing, it can either destroy you or make you pull yourself up and kick ass. You have to have the will to beat it though. Best advice i can give is; Don't worry about work. Worrying about anything will only screw with your mood. Find something to occupy your mind; Watch a ton of anime, take up an old hobby you haven't been able to find time for, have a stand up comedy marathon.
Laughter will work wonders!

:( Ouch...

Well, I can't offer advice on how to cope as I've never been where you are right now and have no idea how I'd handle it in your shoes ...

All I can do is wish you all the luck in the world and hope things work out...
