I see The Sun are still devoting half the paper to it. It's getting the same level of publicity as September the 11th, which to me, is a fucking pisstake. Move on, find something else to report on for fucks sake.

Apparently the bodies are unrecognisable. Even after 5 hours of a PM they couldnt determine the means of death

Obviously people are interested in it, thats why they print it. Go read summit other than the Sun is you want non-sensationalist news

I'm not so sure about that to be honest, I think the people are interested because the papers tell them to be. That added to the fact that they feed the histerical housewives anxieties and paranoia, and you have a paper that sells.

I don't read that shit, no. But unfortunatley several plebs do, and it affects their judgement, and it sends people round to a pediatricians to smash their windows etc. You can't ignore this sort of shit.

Nath sorted hit the nail on the head, but being hamfisted he bent the nail and it didn't quite go in. :(

I don't think the papers are telling people what to think as such, moreof that they simply see it as a story that will sell lots of newspapers. As brutal and harrowing the tales of Russia/Chechnya etc are, no one really identifies with it. But wholesome innocent schoolchildren being abducted and murdered - there's tabloid gold right there.

One thing that annoyed me intensely was the fact that The Sun (my Dad buys it!) one day printed a picture on the front page of both the two suspects, who weren't even suspects at that point, saying "what do they know". In fact, the entire front page was occupied by their pictures. Frankly, by putting someones picture on the front page of a tabloid and associating it with this event it wouldn't matter if the caption just said "Bobby the Clown", the net result would be the same - the person would end up being universally despised.

If the two people suspected of this (who oddly enough are paragons of people you'd expect to find in academic circles) end up being found not guilty, then their lifes as they know it are over. Stuff like that annoys me. If they are guilty, obviously I couldn't give a shit - but you see my point.

The fact this event is getting about the same coverage as the September 11th tragedy just goes to show really how the news that we see, generally, is completely sanitized and a tainted view of the World.

Anyone remember Amanda Dowler?

She's still not been found, no one arrested.

Unfortunately it all went on too long for the media so now we here nothing about it, except todays 5-10min piece on GMTV.

I went go on repeating what others have said here... :(

Durzel's point is well made, newspapers have started becoming judge, jury and executioner (they don't exactly discourage vigilante behaviour). I'm happy to throw the switch and fry any child murderer, but I still believe in a fair trial.

In fact, what the newspaper is doing is making the forthcoming trial more difficult, the prosecution now has to weed out anyone who may have been prejudiced by bias reporting, several times in the past a newspaper has buggered up a case, a good example was the Leeds footballers who beat up that guy.

Newspapers only exist to sell newspapers and make stacks of money, they are not there to inform or do some public service, sames goes for most of the media, and they are all owned by foreigners, which rather makes me suspicious when they start putting down the government and royal family.
