Tonight was without doubt my worst night in RvR. Hibs were totally unresponsive, completely ignoring anyone taking the lead. The /cg's I was in were ruined by people flaming eachother, people not reading em, or people simply refusing to go along with plans.
So here's my suggestions for behavior when in an RvR cg:
- Don't flame. Can't avoid the occasional complaint, but flames go from bad to worse and end up spamming the cg rendering it useless. If you flame you ruin the cg. Even if you're right and the other's wrong.
- If nobody's leading and someone steps forward to give it a try, follow the leader. If you can't or can't be bothered to do better, at least give someone else a chance.
- If you disagree with the leader, flaming is not the way to express it. Stay silent, give advice, or leave. Try not to start a power fight if you think you know better, instead be tolerant and try working together.
- Pay attention to what's being said / asked. If you don't read the cg, leave the cg.
- If the cg is made with a specific goal (like 'the Crim retake squad') and you have no intention of helping to reach that goal, leave the cg.
- Have patience. Getting people organised takes time. Running off often spoils the plans. If you do decide to run off, at least make it known and say where you're going.
- If you do something other than sticking to the plans, like abandoning a charge to res another group, it's ok as long as you make it known. If the group charges expecting 4fg's to charge with em and only 2 show up coz the rest is busy ressing, you might end up getting everyone killed if you don't speak up.
- Generally: use some common sense, and try to be of use and support to others. That's what RvR cg's are for.
- Show some spirit; it stimulates everyone to get more involved. Don't hesitate to step forward when volunteers are asked for scouting, baiting, ressing, distracting, etc.
- If you see people outside of the cg yelling orders, or asking if there is a cg, say so in /cg and get them invited. At least tell them there is a cg.
- Post useful information in /cg. Sharing information is what RvR tactics are all about. Hard to decide what to do or where to go when we don't know what's going on around us.
- Don't swear. Saying things like FFS and STFU are generally good ways to stop people from being cooperative and start flaming.
- Chatting can be fun, but try to keep RvR cg clean of too much spam so the more useful information does not drown in spam. Besides, chatting a lot is a good way to lose /stick ( ;
Feel free to comment; these are the points I found lacking in RvR cg tonight. And most will agree Hib teamwork was horrible tonight.
