Wazzerphuk - is your motherboard an ABIT KT7?

Apparently there is a known problem with KT133 motherboards which is particularly bad under Win2K. VIA and MB manufacturers are supposed to be getting together to produce a BIOS fix for it, but I've heard nothing of it yet.

The problem is supposedly related to DMA mode IDE access. Try reinstalling the VIA IDE drivers in NON-DMA (ie. PIO) mode.

I'll post the URL to a VIA chipset FAQ when I get home...

It is, but it runs fine, and has been for ages if people would read the posts above. :)

You have to be prepared to explore all possibilities, ie. software+hardware, in order to stand a good chance of sorting a problem like this... you can't assume that the hardware is fine, as most windows apps don't stress the system at all.

I had a problem (lockups in UT), which I seem to have fixed by slowing down the memory timings in the BIOS.

I too have a problem

I got sniped too much on Face. I even got a new graphics board (a Kyro2 and it rocks btw) but things didn't improve. I still get sniped too much. You think I should get more RAM ?
:D
