Help in Callifornia

I got as far as getting to the Ice World in the Callifornia system but when I go out on the mission I always get my arse kicked by the enemy. I got the Starflier fighter with all my weapons and the best shields I can buy in the starting system. But the rogues chew up my shields fast and they all seem to target me and not Jin the lady that is helping me escort the artifacts.

Has anyone got past this point yet and if so I would like some info or tips on how to do it . Thanks in advance.

Before leaving the New York system, try get the Defender, Navy Heavy Fighter, off the Battleship in that system. For the single player, you best bet is really just to get each houses Military heavy fighter. The Bretonian one is quite nice, with 6 cannon slots at around 35k.

Get the Defender, it'll help you last longer. And at that stage, I don't believe any enemies have cruise disruptors, so if you get into trouble, switch to cruise mode and let Juni fight it out.

AND, I think it's crap that the AI ALL target the player. I had to hide in some missions and shoot nothing while leaving the friendly AI to fight.

I had the dagger at that point, which is the best ship you can get and its at the Rogues Buffalo base (although you need to be at least neutral with the rogues). Other than that, the Defender is 2nd best ship you can get at that time.

Another tip is to use your Shield Batteries (F) and your Nanobots (G) to repair you ship and its shields.

dont do the typical flying/combat thing that EVERY one i have seen play does (10 odd ppl) where u just get one target and just loop round and round trying to go after that one target. Get a target have a run at himm do damage, and if u see other targets that arnt targetted GO after them ffs!

Ppl think they cant hit them or summing if they aint targeted =/

No... i do that becuase if you Kill each 1 of 10 you down to half way, you still have 10 people shooting you! if you kill 5 of the ten instead, you have less people shooting at you... which means you live longer.

Thanks for the info guys. Made it out last night.

Either I got a tracker on my ship or I got a squadren of outlaws following me all the time, as they always seem to find me. Its a pitty as this only qwirk to the game that spoils it from being a masterpeice.

Devil u still go after your one target but on the way to doing the whole lopp around around thing u have shots at the others and if they are straight u have a go.

Meaning if u dont kill them by the time u got around the targeting him hes half or more dead.

Try Battleship Norfolk in Cambridge, although most of the battleships have their houses heavy fighter.

Yeh I found the Defender Heavy Class from Liberty to work well for me. Then work my way up to the Bretonian Heavy Class as well. That can take some hammering. Which is going to be needed belive me on that one.

At the moment I am flying about in a Kurisha Navy Heavy Fighter ( can't remeber the name) but it looks like a dragon fly with its wings.

My reaction upon seeing the Rhienland navy ships. " OMG You want me to take on that Battle Cruiser and 20 fighters at the same time ? " In the Tau 13 system runing from Bretonia.

But just late been having a blast in Kurisha space. ( the far eastern one look alikes). Working hard to balance the factions then Whamm your working for the Blood Dragons. Here is a tip get the heavy fighter that you will need before taking Juni up on her mission.

once you get the Anubis (I think), you're pretty much sorted until you can be arsed to get a new one.

shame I never got to fly the valkyrie.... would have loved to pilot that ship, but got better :)

Aye I can confirm that the Anubis is one hell of a good ship. I managed to take on and kill 20 Kurisha Police and three weapon platforms. It was one long dog fight but the Anubis took a damn good beating.

Just one question after the big battle in the Nomads system where Trent ( you) fires the artifact into the Nomad city. Is that the end of the story or does it continue as Orililan said he would like me to be his contact in Liberty and Juni asked me stick around. There was no real end just a kind of a wait and see type thing.

ship stompping

If you can`t afford or find a heavy fighter buy a freighter instead and stick missles like the eraser and stalker on the fixed positions and a couple of heavy hull damage turrets on.Lock on a few targets and wipe out their shields using the missiles from a distance then jump in the fight. And try some mines

yup finished the game now. No real incentive to carry on playing as you can't mine or trade as you are a pirate magnet for 10 to 30 pirates every 5 minutes. This is not like Elite which is what I was hoping for its more like a beefed up version of Wing Commander. But still good never the less.

*yawn* Deadman, have you not played games like this before.

If you target any craft you begin what is known as "chase the rabbit" and you have a pack of dogs on your tail whilst you do this. The AI isn't very clever in these games, sometimes a ship runs away but most of the time, 1% health and the ship will still fight

So - you hit one for major damage, go to the next one and more major damage but each time you do this they start queing up behind you to help with the Dogs on your tail

There are many tactics to play but if you understand one main concept then you can plan around that:

*If you kill them, they will come*

Follow one target, kill, kill, kill - then take out another one

Bob and weave, use your Afterburners but stick with the one target until it dies. Scoop up any debris (always wish for 8 nano and and 8 shields) and then go to the next nearest.
