Help find a cure for cancer!

Help find a cure fpr cancer! Goto http://www.ud.com and download the small program (about 2MB). The program works just like SETI@home.

When you have downloaded the agent then you can also join the DoD Anti-Cancer team by Clicking here

Thanks for your help.

I downloaded and have been running it for over a month on my computer at work with its measly 400 celeron cpu. It has now given 16 days 5 hours 33 mins of processing power and I must admit I feel so much healtier already.

My p3-1gig @ home has a tendency to overheat atm :(

Over time I swapped my work p133 CPU wth my own 400 celeron, then changed the mob with a diffrent one, put a cd rom, had to change the case as well. Come to think of it the only remaining original bit of my work computer is the floppy. heheheh if only the IT department knew. I wonder if the worrenty is stil valid. It would be fun trying to put all the pices back together when I leave. :D

Ah right. I shall go and download it straight away and make a novel yet vastly unlikely to have any effect contribution.

Don't be so pessemistic. There's prolly loads of peeps out there thinking "Why bother?" And your post just reinforces that.
I'm not having a go, I just think it's a very good cause and takes no effort at all once you've signed up. There's no need at all to check back to see how you're doing. The little icon in your system tray means I'm hlping in what small way I know how to. Chances are in your lifetime you'll know someone who's badly affected by cancer. Maybe you'l have helped find a cure for them. No matter how small that helping hand.

My entire department has been running this program at work for yonks.

So far the entire program has contributed to 15million hours of processing power, which ain't too bad (about 2.5 days per person as there are 250,000 users).

Novel idea, and I'm sure it will have some use.

Optimism is a fools game.

Saving the world is not my job.

That's a down right fucking arsehole of an attitude to have. You miserable bastard. :(
Well I hope the doctors are as apathetic as you are the next time you're dragged in to hospital for whatever reason.

What kind of a fucking comment is that? I believe you might find that pessimism is a fools game. If you see the worst in any situation, then you will get the worst in that situation - and that is especially true in the business world.

Christ almighty.

He has points though. Optimism merely leads to major let downs and disappointments, and only leads to more hurt and pain and sufferring.

And he says that saving the world isn't his job and you have a go at him. And you react badly to this. How do you propose he save the world then? By downloading software? No.

A pessimist is never disappointed.

But anyway, fuck the cure for cancer thingy, Ill stick with SETI. If I cared about a cure for cancer I wouldnt smoke 20 Marlboros a day and drink obscene amounts of alcohol. You want to live forever?

In your opinion.

Well I hope the doctors are as apathetic as you are the next time you're dragged in to hospital for whatever reason.
Should I care whether or not the doctors are looking interested or not, as long as they do their job?

Er, thats not true at all. Perhaps if you knew anything of the attitude in question, you would understand this.

As Wazz said, optimism leads to upset and disappointment, as a perfect example take a cancer patient, you can hope they'll survive happily all you want, but being optimistic about it and then having them die, is more of a let down in essence than having just hoped? And disappointment almost always helps a spiral of self pity, etc.

Whereas with pessamism (sp?), the outlook is 'bleak' but then, if something good happens, you generally feel better about yourself / it.

Never a truer word said.

And downloading software will stop that, won't it? :)

I've had the UD agent running for a few weeks, but I wouldn't dream of pressuring anybody else into running it.

I also wouldn't dream of butting into a, relatively, philanthropic thread with comments like 'I can't be bothered'. I don't see any point in that at all.

You don't see any point of hearing another person's opinion? That's narrow minded of you. :(

I don't actually think this thread was set up to 'hear people opinions on whether it will help cure cancer'.

I seems to be it was put up to allow ppl to 'help' if they so wish, not for the odd penis to chip in with his 'I don't care' or whatever.
