right here we go :

PC wont boot fresh - gets to "loading windows" splash screen and hangs there
restart into safe mode and then restart, loads ok

2 hdds: 1x1tb, 1x500gig, both WestDig SATA2.
windows is detecting them both as SCSI drives !?!?

only error i can -see- when doing a boot is CLASSPNP.SYS is having seizures...
soo...

fixable ?
reinstall windows ?
new HDD time cos its about to a-splode ?
fish ?

I'd suggest an immediate backup, to keep your data.

Then run the WD SMART diagnostics via the ultimate boot cd. It could be a bad drive, it could even be your mobo.

I had shit like this about 5 years ago and it turned out to be hard drive was knackered. Failure to boot, go into safe mode, reboot and it would work. Obviously it could be something different though.

Could be windows got corrupted somehow. What version are you using?

Recommend a backup and re-install/upgrade to 7.

using 7 atm
is it possible/worth "resetting" it with the DVD or just format it and redo as per usual ?

You could use the transfer programme and do a fresh install. You'd still need to install apps and let windows update run, but the rest would be sorted.
