I'll be around later on, my minstrel on eldar is named Yrena. i've found i can't send a /tell to anyone unless they're in my group, guild or have me as a friend though, think it's a restriction on trial accounts. I'll be going onto a full account once my trial's up though, already got the box waiting.

It truly is a fantasy game

Well, i can't say im getting hooked to this. Graphics were way below what i expected. Gameplay, well, i both like it and dont. Or its just that i hate the elven starter areas..

The elf start area is a bit bland looking. The human and hobbit areas are much better visually, in my view at least.

You completely ignored my "you're not a champion in real life so it's a real fantasy game" flame :(

if you do end up playing the game, dont use click&buy's subscriptions. use timecards. i tried resubbing a few days ago and got an email telling me my account was banned because my CC details were out of date (its not because i used it again the day after at another site).

and now the fuckers refuse to do something about it.

Well dunno what they done with Lord of the rings online, the only game i get motionsickness from, tried it on 10 different comps with different setups and gfx cards, all just makes me wanna puke when i play for a few min.

I also get some kind of motion sickness. My eyes feels all fucked up after half an hour...

Is it WoW fun type PvE or a DAOC grind?

its neither, its a game where ur more or less forced to group if u wanna do the quests worth doing. sure u could grind thrash mobs for little XP.

but the thing with LOTRO is that none of the classes were great solo, sure some better then others but none were great.

even my shield tank didnt feel very tanky even after getting heavy armor.

the squishy classes are EXTREMELY squishy, most notably the lore master, while it do got CC u WILL die if u get 2 mobs on you. because the supposed tank pet (it has a taunt) have worse damage mitigation then you do, and it doesent follow you up in levels, it will always be a few levels lower then you, so forget having that tank an even level for you for more then a few seconds.

its a great game if u love to group and have dependable ppl around you, but its a fucking nightmare if u have to pug, because when things go bad it goes REALLY bad, theres almost no saving a bad pull in this game unlike other games because once someone dies, the rest will follow almost guaranteed.

I've not got that high yet, but the pve is heavily quest based, though some quests do involve killing x number of mobs.
The game does seem to be built around grouping, but that's actually something I like, after all, if I wanted to solo, I'd just play a single player game like Neverwinter Nights.
Having said that, there is a lot, at early levels at least, that can be soloed, as a Minstrel at least, not got very far on any other classes.

That´s bollocks.

I played 2 chars to 60 and you DON`T need to group if you don´t want to. 90% of the quests are solo quests, the rest is either small or full group.

If you´re unable to play a Loremaster against 2 mobs, you simply don´t know how to play the class, simple as that. The Loremaster has a huge arsenal of utility spells, roots, mezz, snares, AoE etc. and even if he manages to fail all his CC spells, he´s not that bad in melee. Together with your pet (wich is able to heal you when it´s flanking), you can take 2 even level mobs without any problems.

Got to agree with Thorwyn tbh, the grouping in the game is great fun, but its no way compulsory. I soloed quite a bit with my Loremaster, you can even doi some of the small group quests solo if theres noone about and your playing the right class.

Best ive done is 4 same level mobs at once I think, although that was a tad frantic and meant much spamming of aoe root, single target stun, my bears taunt and self heal.

I have a 50 hunter on US, but i was getting so much lag in pvp that I just couldn't continue there. Got a 26 hunter on the trial on Evernight server, didn't even know about you guys trying this tbh, lol, some nice coincidence going on here xD

Will be buying the expansion etc in the next few days. I am still getting lag tho with quad core 9600 amd, 512 8600 gts single card and 4gb ram. But not quite as laggy as it was on US, although curiously more laggy in certain pve areas. My guess is that evendim is still as laggy as hell :<

thats not what i said. i said if u had 2 mobs ON YOU, you will most likely die before being able to kill them. i never said a word about JUST 2 mobs.

i know LM's have roots and stuns and whatnot. but you only get a mezz early on, and while good, has way to long cooldown to be a life saver if u get an extra add while a third is already mezzed. and that bear can NOT help you.

/edit: and i also never said it was imposible to solo, just that its one hell of alot harder then any other game i've played. even if the quest is marked as soloable it sure as hell doesent look like it most of the times when every mob and its monkey is linked to 2 or 3 other mobs.

Maybe you haven´t played the LM high enough then. The pets are definitly useful. They´re no auto win, they can´t kill a mob on their own, but in the higher levels, when you have access to lynx or eagle, they´re VERY helpful. I played Sorcerer in DAoC and LM in Lotro and they´re very similar in leveling.

And that´s just not true. As I said.. 90% of the quests are solo quests. You just have to do quests. Killing mobs like in DAoC won´t get you anywhere. Yes, most mobs are linked, but there are always ways around that. The only class that´s really hard to play is the hunter, because he doesn´t have any form of CC (until he´s lvl 50+).

As for the Quests... I never had trouble with them, usually played Quests that were 1-3 levels above me without any problems.

Just think its strange this is the only game i've ever had the feeling.

Made a post about it during beta, some other people had the same problem.

Yeah, only game i've experienced it in as well. Might have something to do with all the fluffy graphics and overfluffy colors that pokes your eyes out :D

hunters gets a fairly decent trap around 5 ot 6 IIRC.

and no i'm not expecting the LM pets to solo anything, but giving the bear some survivability wouldn't hurt. i'd gladly accept 0 DPS from it if it meant he could hold on to a mob for more then 10 seconds before it dies.

and no i never really got especially high on my LM, only got him to lvl 20 before giving up. wich imo is a fair level when testing out a class.

I had a go at LOTRO, this was my experience.

Me: You fucking bastard, stop drinking my coke!
LOTRO: Please sir, this is not funny
Me: I don't care, you always steal my socks!
LOTRO: epic fail
Me: Megadrive

My trial's over and I'm a week into my 30 days free now, and I'm only 18... just taking my time and enjoying it. The way the story is built around the quests is great.

My trial is over as well. Got to lvl 10 - 11? i think. Enjoyed it immensely. Reason i did not go past levell 10 was that my eyes were bleeding from the graphics, so most of the time was put into exploring things.
