Because reading stuff on the Internet from a pseudo-known source is the truth.

They're one of the bigger online backup companies in the US and with the amount of drives they go through, they're hardly a "pseudo-known source" (whatever that is). They stuff all their drives into "pods" though (basically packing as many drives into as small a space as possible) and then rack-mount them, so it's not exactly "typical" usage.

Anyway, they've been good to me (I actually shot them a couple of questions when I was planning my media server) so I accept what they say. They have nothing to gain from twisting the results (they don't have any arrangements with manufacturers afaik).

The effects of vibration on rack-mounted disks...

You just don't face problems like this in a home environment.

I use the NAS versions of Seagate's 3TB drives (ST3000NV000) which have been working fine so far.

Interesting? Sure
Relevant to someone buying a HD for home use, or 4-8 to put in a server for that matter? Not in the slightest. A worrying number of people appear not to understand this.
