This is it, at last confirmation from Valve Software's Gabe Newell from his post slapped upon the hl2fallout forums.

I quote from the man himself: We're going gold monday...

UPDATES: From PlanetHalflife.com:
--
The post is in fact a fake post, according to CS-Nation the account was hacked and the gold notice is false.

*UPDATE* The Gabe Newell poser has continued to post using Gabe's user account on the Half-Life 2 Fallout Forums. The Moral of the Story: Never use your first name and last initial as a password.
--

Egg is clearly on my face. Next time verification of HL2 news will take place, although who would of thought Gabe would of used such a basic password doh!

Possibly not true :/

The admin on HL2Fallout is trying to confirm whether it was in fact Gabe who posted it (as well as the one on CSNation), as the IP that the post came from traces back to a public domain rather than Valve. Could just be he is at home and sent it :)

Just hope it is and not some joke :/

Although it is about as long as his normal posts :)

Seems to be overwhelming speculation it's fake, I guess we'll have to wait until Monday. However, I still can't get the preload and it seems weird that it's going gold on Monday when it's clear there are quite a few people without it pre-loaded.

Also seems weird that he announced it as "We're going gold Monday..." and absolutely nothing else; no details, just a one liner.

The Pre-load does not mean that it will be released when its gold.

They have said it will only be available through steam when it is available in the shops :/ As the Publisher would get slightly miffed :)

Someone found out his password. It was 'gaben' according to gamespot.

They then used his account to post the false info. Another blunder to go down in HL2's history.

You would have thought the Valve staff would be a little more security-minded after having had their code leaked...

Sadly looking more and more like that, yes... although considering they're preloading things over Steam, one would think they'd be nearly finished...

Yeah, we all said that last year - and we all still know deep down that this game is likely to be shit-hot and we're all going to buy it.

People said the same thing about Duke Nukem Forever in 1997 but they'd still buy it when(if) it comes out if it turns out to be any good.

Which it won't. :p

Yeah, DNF sadly looks like it's going the way of Daikatana - ah well, just so long as HL2 rawks I'll be happy :)

How can you tell? No-one's seen anything from it since about '99. Just because it's been delayed longer than the second coming, doesn't necessarily mean it'll be pants.

Though my patience knows no-bounds. :/

The last bits of media from it were from E3 2001 if I remember correctly.

The graphics looked good then, but they probably look pretty bad by today's standards, especially with Doom 3 and HL2 to contend with. They're going to have to revamp the whole game if it is to contend, and tbh with all the setbacks in its past I just can't see that happening. I doubt it will ever actually come out, and if it does, it'll be purely for selling-out purposes only.

Sorry for dragging the topic off the rails.

TFC2 - Believe its now a mod that will come out after HL2 is released... same as DoD: Source etc... Is only CS:Source that will be ready for release

Bit of a change for them given that it was going to be a seperate release a long time ago

I have a lot of respect for Gabe newell, really, but in this case: What a twat! :twak:

What kind of hapless turd sets a forum password to their own name? You'd think he'd have learned a few harsh lessons about security over the last year...

Stupidity aside, 'Gold' is pretty meaningless in terms of actual release dates. this just means they've finally comitted to a release version of the software. This release will still have to be packaged, RTMed, printed and shipped before we see it in the shops. This process can take a week, or it can take months.

I'm still looking to October 1st.

They look poor in relation to Far Cry, D3 etc now.

The trailer is on this month's PC Zone DVD. Looked awesome then, shit now.
