A cynic might say there's little point in donating currently since there is such a bottleneck it a) won't get there for ages and b) could exaserbate the problem by causing a hell of a lot more traffic. Holding off slightly could be an option before donating.

You do have a point - take the red cross - says they are transferring stuff from elsewhere in the region but ignores the reality of the wrecked docks and overloaded airport plus problems of security of supply.

Some charity warehouses have already been plundered...

There should be a new charity formed for each disaster and that should be the only charity with a presence in the disaster zone - whats going on in haiti is a disgrace of farcical proportions.

"Lancet editor Dr Richard Horton told the BBC there was no effective common leadership of humanitarian workers in Haiti, as many non-governmental organisations were competing against each other."

When you have so many seperate charities with their own agendas you inevitably end up with the wrong supplies - too much of some things when your desperately short of something else - I hope we learn from this one.

I also tend to think that people forget that it was a shit hole before the earthquake which never helps any recovery efforts.

I've never been there but I find it offensive and arrogant to call it a "shit hole before the earthquake" - it's a country that's been rife with corruption and has terrible infrastructure and services but "shit hole" is way overboard imo.

On a lighter note how awesome was that little boy's reaction when he was pulled out of the rubble yesterday. :)

I thought Port Au Prince came across very well in "Quantum of Solace".

I donate to the red cross by DD each month, only because the guy that rang my door bell one Saturday morning was shitting himself and I thought he rolled out his spiel well.

I could of broken it down as to what exactly its problems were but just decided to be short and honest. It isn't my problem that Haiti has naturally become flavour of the month and that it was more or less ignored before the earthquake.
