Gonna post on this thread for the last time.

Parkers for a source of data? I seriously don't recommend that, they simply pluck the manufacturers figures - Evo actually individually test the times of the cars using timing equipment and often find them to be quicker than what manufacturers state, so Parkers figures can gtf.

They've only tested a V6, and no 225 - so that's the best I can do, but the performance between the two is very narrow.

You people are comparing apples with oranges.

Christmas rocks btw :)

I agree Yuck, but not about christmas.

It's horses for courses really, the TT is not for me, much like the Elise might not be for someone else. Wouldn't mind one of them SLK type doobries for the missus mind you, proper girly sports car there... ;)

I believe her exact words were "are you fucking joking?"

Audi TT's are a lovely drive but I don't see them as a sports car. It was probably the most relaxing car I have ever driven.

I don't like to relax when I'm driving though. If I don't return home with an ulcer I feel I have failed.

I asked my dad about the atom, apparently it's not practicle so we have to get a tvr instead :(

To clear things up:

Nath, don't want to fall out with you, but I'm proud of my car, my house, and my job, and tbh I like talking about it because I find it interesting. I don't brag (except on the odd occasion), and if you look at my photo on the 'freddies photos' thread I don't think anybody would think I was brand concious. I wear £12 jeans from Tesco ffs.

______

If people don't like it when I mention something I love doing, well you should perhaps be more tolerant. And if you still don't like it, fuckoff and leave me alone tbh.

I bought the car because my last car was an A4, it was brill, and I'm comfortable with the TT as its another audi. I just wanted to get the whole fast car thing out of the way while I am young and can afford it. I don't like the Golf R32. The 350Z is too expensive to afford. MX-5 S2000 even the BMW they're all totally impractical for me - you'd be amazed how much shit you can shove in a TT, the back seats are useless. The TT isn't a poor mans Boxster, the only people who say that drive wanky novas and saxos. If I wanted a Porsche I'd have bought a 2nd hand 911. It eats up the miles, its fast as fuck (for me), its got climate control and heated seats. Yeah the Elise/Exige is a fucking nice car, but its not really designed to do 20k on the motorway each year is it? And for the record the 225 quattro can be uprated to over 300BHP, which shits over a large portion of the car market. And Audi have never marketed the TT as a sports car. They leave that to the RS4 and RS6, which will shit all over most things on the road.

Trem I love the Evo, but its just not my thing, you know?

So to summarise, I love my job, and my house, and my car, and I'll talk about it when I fucking like, so tough shit! :) In fact I just went out in it today and shot a roll of Velvia over the snake pass with lovely snowy backdrops and dirt all over the car, when those beauties get processed I'll plaster them on this board - so thats more tough shit!

Gumbo, loving that Exige - the ride not a bit too harsh for Britain's roads? ... unless you're gonna track it, in which case, fuck yeah.

By all means keep going on about your TT like it's something special, I'll keep going on about how that makes you look like a dick.

I had a fantastic wank a couple of days ago - would you like to hear about that endlessly?

Not at all?

Don't act so suprised that people don't want to hear about your phallus based enjoyment either.

I'd never buy the exige, the roof doesn't come off ;)

You're better off getting the 111R and just having the exige sports suspension and semi-slick tyres, the performance won't be any different. ******FACT*****

I totaled our 01 Legacy three weeks ago... (ice... slush...) got a lovely check from the insurance and got an 02 Scooby Forrester instead.

Better for the man in Maine...

Anyways - go through the insurance. I don't know how they handle it in the UK but my medical bills are covered up to $10k, I drove a Ford F150 (V8 rah!) for three weeks for free (rental) and got about $3.5k out of it.

Merry xmas for me. :D

Hope it works out for you Xtro. You know I worship the very ground you walk upon. ;)

Can I suggest that the TVR is also unpractible. It will break down every 4 miles.

Oi oi Sicko, Merry xmas btw! *grin*

Well thanks to Trem and everyone else who posted on the first page or so, ta muchly.

Btw, the which car is better debate that follows is fundamentally flawed - CARS ARE SHIT, MOTORBIKES ARE MUCH MUCH BETTER ;).

Anyway little update:

I did take heed of what you guys said. See, sometimes people DO listen...

The wife of the guy rang me Monday and said it had "a dent and a few scratches" so they're taking it to the dealer Thursday and will call me with a quote. She was fine and asked how I was etc etc, I didn't say too much and said I'd speak to 'em Thursday.

Soon as I got off the phone with her I called my insurers, reported the accident and said there'd probably be a claim coming, got a reference number, checked I have no excess to pay or anything and breathed a sigh of relief. Fuck it, as JBP and others said, that's what insurance is for!

So let's see what they say Thursday, I think they'll be suprised when I just quote 'em a reference number and say "talk to my insurers not me". Arf.

Thanks a lot guys, I was stressed out Sunday, much better now :)

PS. You can keep talking about wanky cars if you want now ;)

I take it you never saw the Top Gear episode where the TT V6 laped the track quicker than the Elise?

Edit: I might state that I'm not saying the Elise isn't fast, or poo, it's a fucking awesome car - however i'm debunking some of the pish being uttered about the top spec TT's.

No I didn't, although I've just looked on the TG site and you're right, the TT posts a significantly faster lap time than the Elise (although I'm not sure which version its talking about - if it was the Toyota engined one there's something seriously wrong with it). But frankly, I take TG lap times with a large dollop of salt; it has the BMW M3, 350Z and RX-8 all on the same 1.31.8 time, which is just bollocks tbh. While I like to kid myself that my 350Z is as fast as M3, it just ain't (its got a 70bhp power deficit and not much less weight for a start) and at the same time I know it will leave an Rx-8 for dust pretty much anywhere. All three cars are decent handlers so I don't see how the 221bhp, not that light Rx-8 can manage the same lap time as the 343bhp M3, unless the track is very conditions-sensitive and so are the drivers, which seems likely.

There is a much, much wider scope to cars than pub talk statistics.

The M3 I believe is 5.4 to 62 mph, and the RX8 is 6.2 - there is less than a second in it so even in a straight line drag race it's not going to be a whooping. Throw some corners into the equation and it could change the whole picture entirely. Similarly, the 350Z (getting back to paper figures here) is about 62 mph in about 5.6 secs? Again we're talking less than a second on a straight line sprint. All of them will do a quarter mile in about 14.x seconds.

They're all in the same ballpark for performance, so it's going to come down to handling, maybe the M3 was quicker on the straights with the RX8 tighter in the corners. There was a similar performance coup in Autocar's recent "best fast car under £20k" with the Clio 182 Cup lapping the test track quicker than the Impreza WRX. On paper, the WRX will hit 62 in 5.7 secs (according to Subaru ) and the Clio 182 Cup in 6.9, but it was the chassis/handling/weight (300 kg lighter) of the Clio that allowed it to corner so much better. Real world performance.

The problem with the Top Gear website is that they've not stated the conditions for the road as some of those times are in the wet.

Can't believe I missed a car argument. I must stick my oar in!

You can't really compare a Lotus Elise with that Golf in a party frock the Audi TT. An Elise is a proper sports car and a pretty involving steer. A TT driver wouldn't know driver involvement if it bit them on the arse. If they did they would have headed straight to the BMW showroom and had a 330Ci. They're boring sports cars, for boring people (the TT that is, 330Ci's rock). They don't even look that nice if you ask me. Kinda like a flattened VW beetle with an Audi grille on the front. However in my opinion they both get shat on by a little hatchback from France with a dirty great big V6 engine where the back seats should be. Can you guess what it is yet? I'll put a pic at the bottom of my post in case you're a retard and cant guess.

M3 as fast as an RX-8 or 350Z? Pull the other one lads. M3's are similar in pace to Evos/Scoobies/Skylines and the CSL will keep up with a 911GT3. This is all going on evo's laptimes, which i tend to trust a little more than Top Gears.
