Thanks for the Daily Patronisation™

We dont have to like the music just because they "changed" rock.

Fucking hate comments like that. I dont like The Beatles either...

oh i how i remember being young and having EXACTLY the same attitude, keep it up :)

who you calling a youngling, I'm 37.

I was there in the 80's when they "changed everything" and my earlier statement still stands. They were/are crap.

That whole poodle perm/soft rock era still makes me cringe.

There were superior rock bands then and I can name one or two rock bands now who I would far prefer to see live than I would GnR

oh enlighten us to your far superior music of choice, you fail ! thats cause...anyone with a modicum of a clue would know its a great album ( appetite). soft rock...wtf u on about ? :kissit:

were you one of those that thought napalm death were cool ?

How exactly can you say Guns 'n Roses are oh so awesome compaired to todays 'rock' bands? Surely that just comes down to personal preference. I do agree with most mainstream modern 'rock' bands being complete trash, but in my opinion GnR are in the same league as them.

like a shire horse, slowy moving down the road, as its always done for years and years..its Blinkers old.. but it knows were its going, down that same ole' road.

oh i pity you closed minded folks, cannot imagine what its like to be so limited in what I like :)

What about bands like RHCP who lost various band members to drugs but didnt do it very publicly?

They lost Slovak and to a degree Fruischinate who later rejoined once he sorted his head out.

As for GnR, if it wasnt for Axl, they would have fallen by the wayside much earlier as he stayed clean whilst the rest of them were off their tits on smack.

And Helme, I would credit GnR, more than Metallica for saving us from Glam Rock. No one cared about Metallica until "....and Justice for all", by which time, GnR had already sold about a gazillion copies of Appetite for Destruction and brought their style of rock to the mainstream.

As the whole debate about how Great GnR were, well its difficult to quantify and depends what you mean by great. Would a band, who were not great, be able to put on one of the biggest tours in history, the use your illusion tour? a 2 year world wide tour on an unprecedented scale? WOuld they not have sold the albums that they did? WOuld they not have won the awards that they did? If your interpretation of a great band is solely their technical ability, then no, they maybe were not a great band.

I hate Metallica's music. I think its boring and if you have heard one of their songs, you have heard them all. I also didnt like Nirvana's music. But I still rate them as great bands because you cannot mock what they achieved.

sorry didnt realise I wasnt allowed to have an opinion if it differed from yours.........

imo their were and are better rock bands, who I would much prefer to listen to, Sabbath, Zeppelin, and more recently Queens of the Stone Age.

The thread asked for people's opinion and I gave mine. Roses were crap....

You're an idiot mate. Because we don't like Guns 'n Roses we have 'closed minds'? Open your fucking eyes, people have different music tastes. I'm not denying they've got talent, they obviousy have to have such a strong fanbase, but seriously, grow up.

The ironic about this is that you are really the onlyone who has acted pretty closeminded so far.

you, shag & others come on threads such as these and act all aloof. This type of music is beneath you right ? the music you listen to is just too kool for skool right ? your happy to lump GnR into what ever general catagory you mentioned, which is most definitely not the case.

music snobs ftw.

oh go on, list all the serious music you were listening to back in 88' if you go back that far.

care to explain this reasoning ?

ppl come on to the thread, post random aloof/inane comments about a band they know jack shit about. I am the one who does not have a problem with listening to all genres of music ( like a lot of others here). You guys do.

here u go :

close-mind·ed (klsmndd, klz-) or closed-mind·ed (klzd-)
adj.
Intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others; stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas.

exqueeze me if im wrong, but as I mentioned to shag, I must of stepped on a nerve if BOTH of you stretch the imagintion accusing me of close mindedness, your the guys who look down on bands like GnR.

as i said before, music snobs, no fluffing is gonna change that :)

Hahahaha I'm really not sure why I'm wasting time replying to dribble like this, but what the hell. Where exactly did I say anything about GnR being 'beneath me'? C'mon, quote me where I said that. If I remember right I said something along the lines of GnR are obviously talented, due to having such a massive fan base. I said I PERSONALLY don't like them. Does that mean I think of them as a lesser band? No. Did I say ANYTHING at all about the bands I listen to being 'too kool for skool'? No. I PERSONALLY prefer the music I listen to and I PERSONALLY dislike music by GnR. Opinions are apparantly not welcome on this forum these days.

Now get off your high horse you thick ****.

Awesome comeback mate. Do you know what bands I listen to? If you do, have you ever actually listened to them yourself?

I dont know what your trying to prove Zede.

You seem to have come to a lot of conclusions based on me stating that I think GnR are crap..

I've never stated, and will never state that the music I listen to is "too cool for skool" far from it in fact.

I've never been "in" with the current crowd. I've already listed the kind of stuff I was listening too back then, but I fail to see how I can be classed as close minded from one simple statement. Your argument is illogical and completely invalid.

In the space of a month back then as an example, I'd have seen 4 or 5 up and coming bands at the Princess Charlotte in Leicester, playing all sorts of different music, wasnt really bothered about what they were playing, just interested in seeing new stuff (and it was always quite cool to talk music and stuff with band members at the bar later in the night), I'd see Ice Cube's Body Count tour over at Rock City in Nottingham, and then catch someone like Ned's Atomic Dustbin playing in some shack in Leicester again.

Anyway, I give up, really dont know why I'm trying to counter your opinion of me, you obviously already have me pigeon-holed.

pantera, body count - the truth is slooowly coming out ! & i know you didnt say "kool" etc....I did. Like I know that. I needed something to explain yours & others attitude towards things, and to kool for skool fits it perfectly.

It's a good job being young has fuck all to do with this. You're the one attemtping to mock people in the most immature way possible. I don't understand why you can't seem the grasp the fact that people have different musical tastes to you.

"After all thats been said". What exactly has been said apart from you attempting to mock other peoples music taste because it's different to yours?

Do yourself a favor and look up my previous posts why dont you.

If you, shag whoever feel the need to post provocative 1 liners in a thread that quite frankly, people feel very passionate about - Im so fucking sorry I attempted to offend you, well hope I did tbh.
