Since I have already seen a few variations on Legolas in the beta that one doesn't have to wait for day 1.

I am expecting someone, other than myself, complaining since the 'females' in the game can't get their tits out like in AoC.

And, after about 10 days in, the standard "It only took me 10 minutes to reach level 40, you must be useless".

theres a large potential for bugs to slip through the net or not be found until it's too late

The majority of bugs which have been game killers (see AOC for latest casualty) are usually well reported during beta test. At some point a management decision is taken to release the game in spite of them.

They base this on "will the early adopters let us get away with this" and the bleating of fanboys gives them enough evidence to convice themselves and override the wishes of the dev's to release a more complete game.

The buying public has matured, it buys game consoles and see's the vast majority of games run without a hitch, it no longer accepts OS'es which blue screen if you sneeze near the keyboard.

I am actually a bit of a fanboy myself, I have always considered DAOC the best game I have played and was gutted when it was destroyed by the TOA expansion. so I have an emotional buy in to WAR as its succesor, so naturally when i see fanboys trying to gloss over every marketing / communication error (WTG GOA) or bug I fear for the games future.

Whoops see a wall of text forming.

Anyway fanboys ruin games, they convince the games company they can get away with anything, which has the regular buying public moving out before the free month is over never to be seen again.

At the moment there are, IMHO, just two seriously fun-destroying bugs. AI pathing is one of them. Sometimes now and then your pet or a mob or an npc you are supposed to escort will just run away _completely_ random instead of running where you supposed they would go. Including teleporting up and down levels in keeps etc. When I don't play a White Lion this usually works to my benefit, melee mobs standing still and eating ranged damage or running away rather than coming over to my brightwizard and hitting me. But it is very annoying when luck turns back on me, like dwarves inside caves running all over the place and hiding in walls, only to jump out and ambush me 30 seconds later when I've pulled something else. My small happiness is that mobs don't pull their friends just by running past them.

What makes me optimistic about the pathing issue is that most of them appeared with the latest patch, and Mythic have acknowledged them publicly. So shouldn't take a miracle to get that working until release.

The other issue that really bothers me are Crashes to desktops and hangups. My WAR-client will hang about every second time I alt-tab out of game. One such hang in five I'll even have to hardware restart my comp. My boyfriend who sits next to me with an even slower rig does however not have any such problems, so I guess I have an unlucky combo of drivers/gfx-cards/pirated windows/low slow ram etc.

Random CTD's happens less than once per day since the latest patch. (1 day = 4-14h of playing). So a good improvement there.

Apart from that there are inevitably issues with balancing, levellingcurve, slow respawn in heavily farmed areas, some questdescriptions that are wrong etc etc. But nothing of that is in an amount that annoys me. All in all the game is awesome fun and very very enoyable.

So if Mythic just sorts out the crashes and the pathing I say they have reached and well surpassed the "how much can our players take"-treshold.

I have (bad?) news for you my friend. The 10 players on each realm that have contributed the most to the realmpoints the last week will have 20 meter high statues raised in their likeness inside the war-quarters of the capital cities. So thats some serious egoboosts to be jealous of.

However, contribution != good. So there can still be debates on the forums.

That's not so bad ;) at least there's something to base those statues on - the "vote the bestest XYZ!" threads are basically just "Please post the names of your friends" threads ;)

Alt-tab has been a problem for quite a while, I've been playing in windowed mode just to stop that from happening - hopefully they'll have it improved by release...

That's actually a cool idea, I'm not sure you was being serious though :ninja:

I did read about top 10 guild banners being shown outside the guild place in the War Quarters of the 2 cities.

Quite easy to do now some plonk has made an addon that does it from 1 slash command.

You can't really compare an mmorpg to a linear console game when it comes to bugs. They are very different beasts.

As I said (before i was so rudely edited to change the context of my post, thanks for that btw) I doubt anyone actually condones the release of buggy games. While I do take your point that not fixing game-breaking bugs before release is unforgivable, there will always be bugs in mmorpg's. As a DAoC player you should know this, 7 years on and it's still buggy.

Every time you fix a bug, fix a balance issue, add new content or change anything fundimental to the game system, there is a chance there will be a knock-on effect and new bugs will appear not only in the changes/new content, but in other areas effected by those changes. We see this in pretty much every mmorpg ever released because so many things are connected to so many others.

If betas went on until every single bug was ironed out, there would probably never be any mmorpg's released. All you can hope for is a release version that is as bug free as possible at the time of the build. Once you realise there are bugs in this, tinkering with them again for release will undoubtedly leave you with another version with a few other different minor bugs. It's almost a perpetual ever-decreasing circle, at what point do you decide that it's good enough to be released?

Game companies do not listen to players on matters of release dates or the state of the game for release, they listen to the publishers and the shareholders who (hopefully) in-turn listen to the development department. However, it is obvious sometimes this isn't always a two-way street, or the companies are so small that the devs are also the publishers and have all the power and all the say. To think a few players can have any sway over this is daft, ultimately it's all about money and deadlines. You seem to have something against gaming fans and claim they are detrimental to the game, oddly enough your completely wrong imo. While Fans of the game will want to see it released asap, they are also the ones who want it released in the best possible state, they are also often the ones who will bang on and on about fix this, fix that, balance this, balance that because they honestly care and want the game they like to succeed.

Some players will gloss-over minor things like a little lack of communication during a beta phase because it is just that, a minor thing. Making mountains out of molehills is the domain of the forum trolls who claim "I fear for the games future" because they missed a beta newsletter email or the website hasn't been recently updated. A lot of players are giving GOA the benefit of the doubt right now and putting a lot of faith in them. While this might be misplaced, there isn't a god-damn thing any of us can do about how they conduct their affairs. Mythic are developing Warhammer, Mythic have given GOA the EU servers to run again. Writing to Mythic as many did in DAoC, achieves nothing. So in all reality we have no real say in anything. You can either grumble about it, or just accept it and you can bet your bottom dollar it's the "fanboys" as you so eloquently put it who are the ones complaining and kicking up a stink about the major issues in a pretty desperate and probably futile attempt to be heard, not the ones who are passively accepting their fate or condoning every action GOA takes.

...and with that i'll go get my coat.. ;)

After reading IainC post defending the difference between SE and CE by saying how great the CE benefits are with the bits like minature, art book, mousemat etc are, it is pretty much guaranteed, there will not be enough CE boxes to match the amount of CE pre-orders sold and knowing how bad luck stalks GOA something will be wrong with the content.

it is just the way god (or replace with your favorite deity) works :-0

Several n00bs may well get pwned in the process however as I understand it there are no politcal groups currently making this an politically incorrect activity so I will endeavour to do this as much as is humanly possible, in fact please n00bs line up and supply me and my warband rps :)
