Yup, that's the line they hope their wonderfully intelligent (and absolutely 100% not sheep-like) customers will swallow.
There's an element of truth to it but they could easily make their software run differently depending on which model it's running on. Instead, they turn everything up to 11 and make owners of previous generations feel like they need to upgrade.
