hmmm..... last week google postponed the nexus two indefinitely, so I', not sure what is going on. Specs wise it looks utterly pointless.

Only 16GB memory (no mini SD slot), no LED notifications, and no HD videocamera. Looks fairly limited to me.

It's a rather expensive product to impulse buy.

Part of me wants it as my Hero is getting rather old and this is certainly vastly superior to that. More storage, more RAM, faster CPU, faster GPU, larger screen, etc. It's certainly an upgrade. If it took them a year between the Nexus One and Nexus S, I really wouldn't want to hold off another year for the next pure Google phone. I'm really not keen on getting another phone which requires the manufacturer to update it in their own time.

The other part of me is slightly concerned at the specs. It's using a CPU/GPU several months old and in use in other phones, NFC is useless to me, no mini-SD slot (but that would be an additional upgrade which I never do anyway), PPI hasn't improved at all. The price is also slightly scary, even more expensive than the Jesus Phone. :(

If it was an obvious next generation device (dual core, Nvidia Tegra 2, etc) then it would be easier to justify, but it's slightly annoying that the hardware has already been out there in other handsets.

It's inferior. I don't understand the point of it. Google have fucked up this time. You'd be better off installing a vanilla android ROM on the galaxy S.

Received my Nexus S on Tuesday!

So far I'm pleased with it, a much better experience than the Hero - navigating between apps is considerably faster. Unlocking it was simple (fastboot oem unlock), so it didn't take me long to get root access and install Titanium Backup.

The removal of the trackball isn't really an issue with the much easier text cursor moving on 2.3. Only things which bother me a bit would be the lack of a notification LED, the power button being on the side (just feels like it should be on the top!), and having to deal with the main buttons being switched around.

With the price reduction to £430 it's finally dropped to what I was expecting to pay for it. I know it will probably look weak compared to next years Tegra 2 dual core devices, and this is just an updated version of earlier models this year. However after waiting months for HTC to update the Hero - I'd rather go for something which isn't going to reach the end of life for updates in less than 12 months.

I got the OTA update to gingerbread this morning!

There is a noticeable speed improvement and I like the new black/green theme!
