All seems normal.

This is the same as OTA update, so manually applying this won't stop future OTA updates.

Type this into your keypad:

*#*#4636#*#*

Brings up all kinds of neat but slightly scary stuff. No idea if it works on anything other than the N1.

I think it is contract only on Vodafone here in the UK.

/edit quick check says £25 per month and £99 up front for the phone. Doubt that is much use to you in Belgium.

There's a bunch of technically better phones coming out (Droid X from Motorola, the Galaxy-S from Samsung, etc.).

The only thing that the nexus one has going for it now is that it is THE reference plaform for Android, so you are guaranteed prompt software updates for the foreseeable future. Unlike some of the others (HTC Hero, Samsung Galaxy, etc.).

If you are buying phones without a contract, you'd be best off using a web store like expansys.

The Google N1 was made for Google by HTC.
Then HTC took the design and improved it. This phone is called the Desire.

In many ways, Desire and N1 are very similar.
I personally like HTC's Sense UI (flip clock, weather applets etc) in preference to "vanilla" Android.

Hardware wise they are nearly identical Desire has 50? mb more ram to help support Sense and the Nexus has a noise cancelling microphone. So it comes down to a choice between Sense UI or Google's updating. I went for the Nexus because HTC are not very speedy with the updates the Hero is still waiting.

There's more to it than that, dys but when it comes to HTC software improvements vs Nexus 1 direct google updates - I'm starting to think the N1 is more attractive a purchase.

If you want official updates, the Nexus One is the safest bet. However it is 6 months old now, some newer handsets have slightly better features, and there isn't a full guarantee as to how long it'll receive updates.

After using the HTC Hero, I'd say that the vanilla experience is just as good as the Sense UI one. If there's any part of a default Android installation you don't like then it can be easily replaced with a downloaded app from the market. ADW Launcher for the home launcher, Swype for the keyboard, etc.

Just as I was powering down my phone to apply the update manually, it notified me that it was available OTA. So manually check-in, and see if your nexus downloads it.

I noticed with the last two updates they both appeared right after i dropped my phone onto the cradle. I wondered if the OTA updates need power?

The update requires your phone to be charged but not attached to power directly.

My OTA update came through yesterday but wouldn't let me apply it as my phone battery was low...so i had to plug in the charger

I've heard it's only the developer version at this point. The rest will probably get it later.
