[26-10-2006] Early retirement of the old alchemist

The old alchemist who was demonstrating how to make bottles and barrels that contained several potions, has exhausted his stock and will soon cease his work. Before he finally retires - worn-out by hard work or maybe because he earned enough gold thanks to his commercial success - he will remain available so that adventurers can fill the containers that they already have.
Fortunately, the alchemist masters have managed to learn his secret, and in a few weeks they will be able to teach all alchemists a formula that will enable them to create vials created from the principles taught by the old man.

so.. this means GOA remove barrels and want us to use the new pots in smaller stacks that comes with 1.85? :/

The NPC alchemist wont sell them anymore so well done GoA - very VERY dumb thing to do imo

We know that this is going to be an unpopular move but the way that barrels and bottles are implemented ingame currently is not consistent with Mythic's design. Because of the stacked potions coming in 1.85 this special content will no longer be relevant and so we are retiring it so that players can wind down their stocks of the old barrels and bottles prior to the new patch.

Remember that this was bonus content, only available on normal ruleset servers and subject to being pulled at any time. It was never intended to be an integral part of the game.

1) 9 dose pots are hardly the same as 100 dose barrels.

2) If this had been done AFTER 1.85 was live then its a little more understandable but doing it before doesn't seem to make any sense other than to annoy players used to having multi dose potions.

We are focusing our time on getting 1.85 out. As you'll have read in the news, our tests are pogressing well and we should have an ETA that we can share with you soon. Fixing this content took 30 lines of code - or about 5 minutes work. It absolutely won't make 1.85 arrive a single day later.

Regards 'requiring' this content, I'll repeat what I said earlier. This is bonus content and like all bonus content it can be removed at any time. It was never intended to be a permanent part of the game.

hmm and if remember correct, these barrels was used alott one different thing what was going for us, comparing to US servers account splitting etc.
what is now different compared EU-US servers? know theres alott but what we have better? dont fast come anything in mind.

Why are they removing it? im not sure how it being in the game causes a problem.

It would be nice by the way, if GOA took the same customer service action as Mythic when they are changing things like this which are going to cause a lot of negative feedback from the customers..by creating login polls on these things. If you did this, you would most likely see that a very high percentage of your customers wouldn't like this to be removed..I recall a 3rd ML poll that Mythic put in and the results shown that most customers wouldn't like it to be put in, thus Mythic dropped the concept.
