Names of characters and guilds
Although character names in keeping with the age and kingdom in which they are to develop are welcome, players are free to give their characters whatever names and nicknames they wish, as long as they respect the following rules. Please note that these rules also apply to guild names and surnames.
- No names with insulting, degrading or racist connotations.
- Names must consist solely of alphanumeric characters.
- No religious, sexual or political references.
- No brand names, product names, character names or any other elements subject to copyright.
- No inciting of illegal conduct.
- No references that degrade other players' characters or GOA personnel.
- No titles of nobility or prestige. Some of these can be acquired on the Camelot battlefields.
- The names of legendary people from the three kingdoms are tolerated, but please bear in mind that developments in the game may bring these names into question.
- No names that could suggest that the character may belong to the GOA team or have the status of Volunteer or Gamemaster.
- No names of towns, regions or characters in the game. If necessary, however, guild names may make reference to such places or characters.
- All these bans also apply to combinations, homonyms and alternative spellings of such names as are disallowed by this Charter.
GOA reserves the right to implement penalties imposed on players whose character names impair the community spirit of the game.
Penalties
GOA reserves the right (at any time and without prior notice) to reduce access to or block an account temporarily or definitively if the user has not respected this Charter, has encouraged another user not to respect the Charter or has caused harm to the user community.
Characters whose names do not respect this Charter may be renamed by GOA. This does not exclude the imposition of other sanctions concerning this particular violation of the Charter.

The point is that the name is a sensitive name in today's life. Don't say it doesn't refer to Milosevic because it does. Everyone who says Slobodan says Milosevic. They are simply linked to each other. GOA has the right to do almost everything they want. Dunno why people value their char names that much.

I think their point is it isnt a political name - Slobodan is quite a common name in certain parts. Its like Joseph - thats a common name but combine it with Stalin and its a different matter. Stalin murdered more people than (Adolf) Hitler (if my history serves me rightly) but noone would complain about someone called Joseph would they?

Slobodan is a perfectly normal name and had he combined it with milosovich (or however its spelt) I would be 100% agreeing but he didnt so i dont

anything worth being said has been said, if you go through being so picky about every borderline case because your name was reported then you will clutter up rightnow with complaints that will need to be checked, thus increasing reply times for proper reports that werent done just because your name was complained against, blahblahblah

Couple of things...
Firstly, why do people feel the need to complain. In all honesty I can't see that the complaint is a TRULY genuine one by someone who has some deep grievance with Slobberdon MeLuvvaBitch. If names offend you that much or in any deep personal nature - use SHIFT-N - problem solved - no more names.
It seems to me that certain people on Alb will complain about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and GOA are NO HELP. They have shown time and time again that if someone spits their dummy out about something, GOA will simply suspend their account for 7 days, no questions asked.
Goes like this....
[Dave] GOA, this <insert flame> stood too close to me when I was lvling and it put me off so I got killed!
[GOA] Fine.
BANG - 7 day suspension for <whoever>
GOA need to bring a degree of "live with it" to Camelot or it's just gonna be full of a load of whining people swamping rightnow with pointless shite.
Secondly, GOA's memory of historical places / people is just short of nil. We recently organised a Hari Krishna march in Albion, which rightly so we requested permission from GOA before we did it.
They sed no to the name, because of religious connotations.
Fair comment we said, can we call it Harry Kisinger?
No, as this directly refers to a person in history and this is not allowed?
Harry Kisinger? Well, I'VE never heard of him - so I rightly corrected GOA and explained to them to perhaps they were thinking of the Nobel involved HENRY Kissinger - first name Alfred - to which they replied... (direct quote here):

Anyway... if id name my char Saddam or Osama... what would be first name to occur to your mind? They are propably quite common names somewhere... Slobodan doesnt give me these kinda images in my head, but might do it to some1 else...
and why would any1 have to think about it... its funny that some1 has time to put that kinda effort in flaming goa or whatever you are doing, but why would every1 have to agree its right way to go?

About the little window with names popping up and stuff - he'd only see that if he was selecting the player and he'd probably only be doing that if he was buffing / curious etc etc.
Once he saw the name though if he was unhappy, he need never click on that person again.

The names which people complain about get changed simple as that. Nice list but hey if nobody is complaining.... So imo not a fair comparisment.
Same happened with Cancer. People complained about it cause they thought he meant te disease, which he didn't ofcourse. It was just the name of one of the starsigns. It sucks but i can understand it.

omg 10 pages on pryd, 2 pages so far here. Ohh and the topic title is wrong. GoA can't violate something they don't agree to everytime they enter the game. On the other hand. You agree to it, So you and nobly bribe must abide by it.
Note. I had a good long post pointing out the pros and cons of this "violation" by a name. But cba posting it as no one will read it anyway. Lets ask a different question.
Why would "slobodan" be offended by changing his name. If he knew that someone in game felt offended by him useing it. What about the feeling of others around YOU before yourself.

Dach, it seems you are a bit uninformed, Cancer did have complaints yes, but he wasnt forced to change the name since it *is* a starsign(or whatever the word is in english), he asked GOA to change it himself, not the other way around.
