Apparently Google have stated Gmail will remain free, especially because it employs their advertising. There is the suggestion that additional features may become a paid for option once the service comes out of beta (e.g. POP3 access, for example, where GoogleAds on the webmail service are avoided). I doubt this would really affect the service, however. Google has enough financial power to cover its costs, and their targeted adverts continue to draw in huge amounts of revenue, so I wouldn't worry too much about the entire service becoming a subscription-based plan (... he says, hehe, just a guess :)).

Kind Regards

Ok, I got sent seven links, and the rest were lost somewhere in the system. Though I've been given another 50 invites. I'll post up some more at some point.

How the hell am I going to fill 1Gb with text, let alone 5Gb? (2% so far)

How am I supposed to know? :)

I've only used about 5.5MB and I've had the account for about 4 months now. :D

Join high traffic email lists (like linux-kernel, in my case). Oh I also got to 33% on gmail before I stopped forwarding email into it because I get a hell of a lot of spam too.

As for ads on gmail, what ads ? :D (says the AdBlock user).

I've got 50 invites too. I'm not convinced there are enough people on the planet to send them all too any more. There must be 10's of thousands of GMail users (I once heard a figure of 50,000 - that was months ago). With loads of us (apart from FatBusinessman) getting 50 invites... I guess they're really wanting to stress test the servers for capacity.

I think some anti-spam in the chain is eating any further invites I send to myself. One of them is still live out of the seven I sent.

I've got 50 invites too, I don't even know 50 people in real life! If anyone wants an invite just pm me an email address so I can send you the invite. :)

personally I oculd give a flying fuck what google know about me, and id be surprised if any of you guys did really. and that site you linked too is a bit weak, ok some of their points are indeed valid but they try and make out google is evil because it places innapropriate ads on pages. At least its not fucking porn or online casinos for once.

nah, most of em get censored :(

I just found a nice hack to remove the text ads that appear on the side of a page on google.com and on other sites where google quirts their ads at you
