I agree with Kez on this one to be perfectly frank. Contracted language, as used widely in mobile phone text messages, has a suitable place and a reason, however this does not apply readily on a forum like this. Typing out long [in comparison to mobile text] messages in "I h8 u" format does get grating after a while.

The massively contracted usage of the english language developed, as I'm sure you're aware, due to space limitations of early mobiles (only having so many spaces available for characters) and for speed reasons on the shitty interfaces of mobile phones.

Largely though I think generally people don't realise that they are subject to doing it, as it appears quite normal to them. Also I think some people get confused between those people using this form of language, and those people who just can't write properly due to poor education and so on.
