Ghosts

I can't add any *amazingly* great story to this list, but I've been witness to a number of small things that have happened at my parents house, the majority of these happened after my gran (on my dads side) died about 6 years ago.. the history is that, my mum and my dads family never quite got on for a number of reasons i wont go into, simply put. they hated each other. My mum and also on a few occasions my brother, have also been witness to some of these events, and they where always simple little things

the first time, sitting in the kitchen in the morning.. drinking tea... eating toast, the kettle started boiling, neither my mum or i had been anywhere near the kettle for a good 5 minutes or so. Could have been a simple electrical *thing* but the kettle boiled and my mum looked at me and asked if i'd been up to put the kettle on, i asked her the same.

the 2nd time in the kitchen again, in the morning, 2 loaves of bread stood themselves upright... i saw the movement out of my eye and turned to notice the loaves standing upright. again, this could be anything, trick of the light.. reflection on the bread packaging catching in my eye and myself *believing* the loaves had been laying down.

the 3rd time, i was in the bathroom, came out and my radio had switched itself on. this one im 100% positive i had nothing to do with and it wasnt a trick.

4th time, a number of items from my shelves dropped off onto the floor (i say dropped off as most people assume a violent "throw" in these cases, these items just plinked to the ground like they had been sitting on the edge of the shelf ready to fall at any moment, but they weren't.. they where spread around the shelf and 95% of them wouldnt have been anywhere near the edge to fall off by themselves)

there have been a number of incidents with myself aswell that im not 100% convinced off, the first one was something like "phantom scratches".. this happened quite recently. Basically, one day in work leaning over to a friends computer, i thought "ow, my arm".. lifted up my sleeve to show my upper arm and i had 4 large scratches, and these weren't light scratches. think cat claws.. now anyone who knows me will tell you that i bite my nails to death, there's very little of my nails left.. certainly not enough to even give myself a light scratch.... i definitely have no recollection of bumping into anything either the night before or in the morning.

the one that freaks me out the most was my gran (this time on my mums side) i was about 3-4 years old at the time of her death and we where staying in her house... being that young i didnt really realise the importance of death at the time (who does at that age?) and i have this distinct memory of sitting in the lounge and peering up at my gran as she stared back at me, then my mum came in and i burst out crying for some reason :/

ive tried to shorten these down a bit, trying hard not to come across as a "omgf i am a ghots magnut!1" im just relaying what's happened to me before :)

enjoy

it's the 'everyday' strangeness that is the wierdest imo. I can dig like, a knight in armor striding down a castle passageway, but a loaf of bread moving about in my kitchen...while I'm there...seriously gives me a case of the screaming heebiejeebies :/

Whilst watching telly a few years ago the tape player in the kitchen once came on for no reason, playnig some music full blast :0
Made me jump I can tell you :) Having said that, it was prolly on pause or something, and the button came off.
Im far more inclined to believe in the power of peoples minds to create such things than the possibility of dead people all over the place.
Sorry :(

Was talking about ghosts and stuff the other day with a friend, I'm really cynical and skeptic about it.

We got on the subject of ouiji boards, the thing is my friend is dyslexic so we are going to try it in a supposedly haunted place with him and another of his friends also dyslexic while I watch

Now if that works that'll be enough proof for me - I'll let you know how it goes....

I've never seen anything relating to supernatural activities but people in my family have, looks like I miss out on all the fun. :(.

I have however been to many old buildings, and while walking about I enter a certain room and immediately feel uneasy and think I really don't want to be in this room, this is usually followed by a deep feeling that I'm being watched. This was a regular occurrence when I worked at the national maritime museum, specially when walking about in the queens house at 1am where all the lights are off and you only have a torch to see where your going. Again this was only in certain rooms, using the stuff available to me at the museum I found reports of ghost sightings over the last 100+ years in those exact rooms.

Another Case was when I worked at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, every night at about 1am there would be a strange smell of old tobacco in a corner of the room, and I know that no one was smoking as I was the only one on the site.

But like I say, I have never actually seen anything.

to be honest, I'd rather have dead peeps underfoot than the average bloke creating things with his mind :)
I know my mind, and the things I'd dream up would prolly hunt down and eat humans :)

Ouji boards are a good example of this. I saw one done once. It worked , no question. There was no "cheating" I could see, and it definately knew some personal stuff about people there that no one else would know.
But I think its far more likely some kind of mind thing was controlling it than mystery dead bloke in mystery dead room tbh.

Aye, i have to agree... the thing i get worked up the most about is when my own mind starts ticking over and convincing me things are bad.... for example, in my current house im renting with 2 other peeps, im usually the last to go to bed so the landing lights and downstairs lights are left on.. until recently, the only light switch i knew of for the lights upstairs, was downstairs (until my housemate cunningly pointed out to me that what i thought was a dial for something, was in fact a light switch :/)... so i'd go downstairs aroundabouts 1am for my pre-bed smoke and i'd come to the light switch, turn it off and run like a bugger up the stairs.... why did i run like a bugger? there's a huge mirror opposite the stair case and i have this perpetual fear of looking in mirrors when im alone, doesnt bother me during the day, but in the dark on my own i hate it... i think this might come from my mum, because at home we had a HUUUUUGE ass mirror opposite the landing, and whenever my mum went to the toilet in the night she hated looking at the mirror in case she saw something behind her that wasn't actually there...

Case A of things caused by the human mind :)

the sheer FEAR of thinking there's a slim chance i might see something in a mirror stops me from doing it.

Thanks Dam, and thanks Kenny, tho to be honest I was not at all upset by your original reply.

It was this child after all, and so he was probably pissed ;)

My point exactly 7th.
Look, im a sucker for stuff like that. i dont even watch ghosty films :)
I watched that bruce willis film the other day, you know "i see dead people", whatever its called.
Suddenly Im imagining people walking past me from behind late at night, you know like the bit when the boy goes for a piss at night and you first see the stuff hes seeing.
Then I suddenly think, wtf, you wernt thinking this yesterday, so why now ?
Look up , look round, all is well. Human imagination is a powerful thing.

Heres one for that 'mundane' strangeness feel - my best mates mum told me about this one - I've known her for about 30 years and she's not the type to make it up.

They used to have a little old lady who lived next door to them - she had lived in the house for years and eventually she died there.

The house had fallen into dis-repair as old peoples houses often do so it took a good 6 months to sell.

The buyers were a young couple with 2 kids - a couple of days after they moved in the mother of the kids knocked on my mates mums door and introduced herself.

After the usual pleasantries she asked about the people who used to live there - she then told my mates mum that she had had an odd dream on the second night.

She had dreamt that she was in the house with an old lady she had never seen before who asked her if she liked the house to which she replied yes - she hadnt been scared in the dream.

My mates mum told her about the old woman and showed her a photo who she said was the woman in the dream...

Ouija boards are too easy to disprove. All one person needs to do is flinch slightly and all of a sudden you're spelling out the name of someones long forgotten great grand father. It's fun but bollocks imo :)

Considering how many stories you lot have, some of which are pretty convincing, I find it hard to believe that there isn't any conclusive scientific proof into these supernatural goings on. Just seems to me that as humans have conquered all our natural frontiers it could be expected that we create new ones to keep life interesting.

It's too easy to see things that aren't there when you're spooked. Seeing reflections and patterns in the shadows and things. I've had weird stuff happen to me too but I just put it down to random occurrences. Not enough scepticism in this thread at the moment so thought I had better insert some :)

aha, but that is the trick isn't it? to prove something, you'd have to be able to get a repeat performance in a controlled environment. were I a ghost, I'd not show just to throw things a little. freak the pesky living out a bit, keep em on their toes ;)

I was awake god damn it!!

I was as awake as I am now.

I was wide awake when I attacked Samm last month, I couldn't stop myself, I saw her face and I saw her screaming, I couldn't shake it for at least a minute....

...true story happened last month when we went Scotland.

We were in bed, she was asleep, I was awake then I kinda blanked out and started to try and strangle her.

I have attacked her before in my sleep but the other times I was asleep and she woke me up.

This time I was wide awake, possessed I tells ya!

I personally still dont believe in ghosts but some of the stories I have been told by people who were obviously sincere have shaken my cynicism a little over the years - either they are lieing or some pretty strange stuff goes on.

As to scientific testing this stuff is unpredictable - science is pretty sure that ball lighning/st elmos fire exist but they are too rare to study.

Also quantum physics revealed a relationship between an observer and the event to the extent that you can say that humans perception has an effect on reality - it may be that this stuff is simply unrepeatable in a lab...

Personaly I think its just the brain playing silly buggers with people....the same with near death experiences and Deja vu...

I'm sure I remember a case like this when I was studying criminal law - as I remember it the guy got off the murder charge because he lacked the mens rea (lit. guilty mind) - your not using this forum to establish an allibi are you Trem?

Edit - bah spelling!
