Being kind of curious about the supernatural, I've been looking at this site here: http://www.ghostresearch.org/ghostpics/
which alleges to show unexplained spooky photos. Some are a bit odd, but some just look a bit shit.

So, here's the thing: does anyone here have any decent ghost stories of things that have happened to them or close mates?

AND can someone paintshop up some better fakes?

I shit myself too :(

Anyway - one time, me and my bro (Nylex / Explosive or whatever his alias is nowadays) were watching TV. This was a few years ago - on a saturday night. It was about 8pm. So, we were watching TV and our mum was listening to music; so we closed the living room door to hear the tv better. A few minutes later, there was a strong knock on the door. I opened it, but there was no one there. I shit myself and asked my mum if she knocked on the door but she said no.

Ever since then, I never close doors (aside bathroom).

Anybody here watch Most Haunted on UK Living? I did the shoot that clinched the pilot for that series, and I know the lighting cameraman who shot the 1st series very well - there was some spooky stuff caught on camera that is pretty good.

Basically, the presenter and another cameraman were a wife & husband team, who owned the company making the program, and guess what? The majority of the spooky stuff happened only to them, and to the presenter's brother, who was credited as a cameraman but in reality knew fuck all about cameras.

well I was a cynic but now I'm not sure. One night I woke in the night (over the past year I've been doing that a lot) and waved to a little girl(with pigtails hugging her knees) and closed my eyes again. I did a sort of double-take and opened my eyes. She wasn't like I would expect ghosts to be it was like a silvery outline. Another time I opened my eyes (they were level with my radio alarm and my lamp) and saw someone move past them.

Could be my eyes playing tricks but it didn't half shit me up.

Wow, those pictures are so amazingly shit. Few of them look real and the ones that do can easily be explained. The first one made me laugh, according to the write up it clearly shows a woman with her hair in a bun and a bulldog next to her, yeah if you've been drinking I suppose, or try squinting and turning your head a bit, or better yet close your eyes completely and make some shit up.

My mum was brought up in a massive house up in Fife, Scotland. There are countless stories, infact a lot of people who have lived there for a while say "oh yes, this old place is haunted" without the "omg it's haunted scary!" factor.

One of the stories I remember is some old geezer standing outside looking at a tree. Some other guy (I think like my great uncle or something like that) said "So <whateverhisnamewas>, how long is it you've been dead?" The other guy turned to him with a really startled expression on his face and disappeared.

True/Bollocks who knows, I just thought it was quite amusing :D

That can easily be explained, its to do with dreams, it happens to me all the time. Sometimes your conscious and sub conscious has trouble distinguishing between dream and reality, sometimes you see a dream but think its reality and remember it as reality thats why you sometimes hear people say "did that happen or did I dream it"

I know various people who have said they have seen stuff. One of the most convincing tho was a friend in a car -- car turning right and this person thinks the driver doesnt seem to be giving much room to that couple on the verge --- go round corner look back --- no couple there ---- only thinking about it afterwards realisng that they were dressed in old fashioned clothes and the verge actually looked different to how it actually did that day ---- ie no scary demons etc just seeing something and then its gone.

Ghosts fascinate me and having read a fair bit on the subject my view is that there is something happening but I agree most accounts are fakes/explainable.
A fascinating idea for some ghosts I think is that somehow strong emotions etc can imprint themselves on surroundings like a recording.

As for that picture I agree with Damini --- haunted or not I wouldnt want it !

narcolepsy, if your seeing things after being asleep for an hour or 2 its narcolepsy [sp?]. i have had it for about 4 years as far as i remember and my mum also has it but not as severe as me.

edit: by severe i mean i have hallucinations every night maybe upto 3 times

I like that "Most Haunted" on UK-Living... altho sometimes i think to myself "is this really true?" i mean the new series they started the other day, i think they went to Branagahns (sp?) Club in Manchester where this really *nasty* entity was around and he "possessed" the presenter... It was a "hmm.. shit acting? or true?"

Anyway...

Quite a long time ago, maybe when i was about 8'ish, i was in bed and i looked up at my ceiling, and i seen the whole ceiling full of these "faces" floating around, scary lookin things and skeletons.. I shit myself, hit under the cover then about 5seconds later looked again and everything was fine...

I do seem to recall in the papers that a man seen "ghosts" on his wall in the cellar he had, altho i barely remember it

I used to be a member of a "Ghost Hunting" group, we would stake out graveyards are other reported hauntings, one of the team was a uber-geek who'd bring various measurement devices, even had a geiger counter ! Another guy was a walking encycopedia of ghostly knowledge, he'd even written a few books about it. The girl who ran the group later settled down, had kids, and became a professional tarot card reader !

I clearly remember visiting one derilict castle ruin, the group had been joined by a few curious associates, I was standing inside one of the old towers with three others when the pool of water at our feet started bubbling and swirling around, it was a very scary experience, but afterward I couldn't stop laughing when one of the three, a girl, ran screaming off into the distance !

I've been to some very scary places, and luckily I was living in Essex, which is the most haunted area in the world, so I didn't have to travel far.

One abandoned manor house, we had access to the cellars, whilst I never saw anything spooky I did see a fucking huge rat, it was easily the size of a domestic cat, that was scary too.

As regards the photos, my father is a very experienced photographer of more than 50 years, although technically only an amateur, he is quite well known for giving lectures, all my life I've been surrounded by cameras and the various chemicals and appartus of photography and being mechanical devices they always throw up inconsistancies, so photos with strange marks on never surprize me.

My girlfriends sister lives in an old house with her bloke and 2 kids. The younger child (aged 2) had a disturbing habit of saying "Hello man" to an empty corner of the room, on a regular basis.

What could he see that no one else could?

hmm I'm sorry Dams I'll struggle to remember something useful for you :/ err, err oh I do remember...but it doesn't count as I was on acid but what the hell - I was laying in bed at about 3am in the dark and saw a spoon hovering in front of me, not normal size but quite massive. Spoon was filled with blood and several babies' heads were rolling down the handle of the spoon towards the blood and calling my name very slowly as they rolled.

Like I said I was on acid so it doesn't count. Don't do drugs kids mmkay!

Hmm that was about 10 yrs ago too, maybe the ginger lass was in bed besides me at the time!

/edit: come to think of it I have loads of horror stories like that, all to do with acid though, thank God I stopped.

Heh, my friend did acid and saw his face melt in the mirror, and he cried and thought he was Jesus.

Now, he is in a mental home :(

Erm... something was funny in there once...

When I was a kid, I lived in a old gamekeepers cottage in rural Perthshire. It was in the middle of nowhere, about two miles from Dunkeld, closest neighbour was a mile away, no phone, no TV. One night I was sleeping in the downstairs bedroom, and I saw a ghost start to materialise in front of me. There was a very scarey feeling, so scarey in fact that I passed out from it before it fully appeared. Never slept in that room again.

I just did a search to try and find the name of a place in Essex I went to and had a scream of a night, not the famous Borley Rectory (which I have been to also).

This small chapel stood on its own surrounded by fields, in was one of the oldest church sites in England, the first church was a wooden construction and got swept out to sea, but nowdays the coast is miles away and the chapel is made of stone.

There was a short 1/2 mile dirt track leading down from the car park to the chapel, it was night, a full moon but very overcast, and the remains of a storm were in the air, occasional flashes and rumbles. If you remember that scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where the lightning was above the clouds when the kid got abducted, it was like that, super spooky.

Once we got there one guy said he forgot a bag, I offered to return to the car, on my own. He rallied me with tales of a headless horseman, bastard.

On the way back I became aware of a large number ghostly caped figures moving towards me, I was freaked out when I saw they were a bunch of new agey type monks carrying candles and dressed in hooded cloaks, they were on their way to a "service" in the chapel !

I got to the car, opened the boot and got his bag, I started down the lane again, alone in the dark, and carelessly slung the bag over my shoulder, inside it, unknown to me, was a talking clock, which suddenly blared out the time into my earhole, needless to say I jumped quite high.

When I got back the monks were busy chanting in the chapel, we all stood outside. One guy remarked this was great way to stir up the ghostly spirits, and we were in next after they'd finished waking up the long since departed, who were probably quite pissed off by now.

In that chapel in the pitch black, or only with a candle, was terrifying. The warm moist air, tinged with the scent of a thunderstorm, all stirred up by those bloody monks, made it all a real freaking out party.

Didn't see anything tho, good time was had by all.

Borley Rectory was proved to be largely faked wasn't it. The name of the guy escapes me now but a very famous "ghosthunter" who most now thinked faked loads.

Reading Xanes stuff was interesting though -- I was interested in researching ghosts in a group but Ive been kind of put off as I assumed it would be full of people like he describes ;)

Also worrying -- what will Essex ghosts be in a few years when all these headless horsemen and monks etc have to share their sites with ghosts of Sharon and Tracy in white stillettos, forever waiting for Wayne in his ghostly XR3i to give them a lift.

I really do hope there are no such things as ghosts, I work alone in a section of the building that apparantly one of those ghost phsycics refused to go in because she sad there was a bad presence.
