The good stuff dates from when Sven Vath used to do 12 hour sets in Germany and Holland at the big raves. Its still being made and is fucking ace.

On a commercial tip, I like everything that Push does. They seem to have a button in their studio marked "bloody great trancer" that they whack everytime the bank balance is a bit low :)

Yea Push/M.I.K.E rock da boat (plus other things) indeedeleh.. they've been going for years but 2000/2001, he's excelled himself... strange world, sometimes I prefer the 2000 remake to the 'club mix' of the legacy but both are fuckin mint trax to throw in the mix, timeless and bangin' :)

I've recently discovered Fabio and Grooverider on Radio 1. Some fucking amazing DnB on sometimes.

I've also been getting into one of the great forgotten genres of music again - Trip-Hop. Massive Attack, Tricky and to a lesser degree Portishead. Mezzanine and Pre Millenium Tension have been fighting for control of my CD player for a couple of weeks now :)

/me remembers he needs to pick BlowBack up next time he's in HMV

Universal Nation still does it for me, a shiver down the spine as you might say. But all the other stuff he's done is bloody fab. Strange World and Legacy will, like Universal Nation, be played for years to come.

bloooooodeh ell how could i forget that tune :) 99 certainly did ownz0r for trance... i really liked M3 - Bailamos (Matt Darey mix) cuz it was jus bangin as hell sped up a teeny bit, full of sounds, loads going on, kept that summery ibiza feel and was jus amazingly euphoric :) Matt Darey must have milked it in 99 with the amount of remixes he did for peeps

Matt Darey did an orgasmic remix of Westbam's Wizards of the Sonic a few years ago. That bloke is good.

I just found an original 12" copy of Kraftwerk's The Man Machine album in my record box. The date on it is 1978 :)

And guess what else? Yeah, DJ Shadow's back. New album was supposed to be released this year but it seems to be delayed a bit...? Not quite sure. I heard a new track of his being played on Breezeblock last night.

Edit: Apparently the new album is due in 02/02. I think I can hold out that long.

Trip-hop - more than just a 90s fad I tells ya!

Talking of Radio 1, Breezeblock (12am-2, Mon) is my new favourite show. They had the Avalanches on it last night, it was superb. That's the kind of stuff every DJ should aspire to. At one point they mixed Underworld's 'Rez' into the breakdown of 'It Began In Afrika', then about 10 minutes later Queen's 'I Want To Break Free' slid into 'Sandwiches' :). Out here on the dancefloor, come on we can do it... still going round me head.

DJd UK garage for about a year, back in 1999/2000 - when it was actually garage. This shit around now is just a bunch of shit cunts that want to be rapstars, meets an even bigger bunch of shit cunts that want to be underground DnB stars.

Fucking sad, and a disgrace to the UK music scene.

popped around a m8s earlier, found a nice ol' cd from 1998 that dreamscape brought out, underground garage :) speed/uk garage from the olden days, when it was good like perp says. Tis proper funky shit, I like the more four to the floor drum patterns with badass basslines, s'all good.

God knows why peeps are still scared of DnB when UK Garage is so shit and DnB is sooooo much more intelligent these days... altho i do like a few UK garage tunes from this year and last but DnB, the stuff I've heard this year, gotta be the best eva. Well impressed, sorry I lost contact with who was who and what was what in that genre really :/

Have to agree with Perp, I've played in the D&B room at a couple of UK Garage events last year and the whole building reeked of roodbwoyness and shit attitudes.

UK Garage: nice idea gone horribly Pete Tong because the wrong people are being succesfull.

DnB has stuck too its roots and hasnt sold out for cash and acclaim. cant say the same about UK garage

LOL. You're obviously WAY too young to remember, but Garage is doing EXACTLY the same thing that DnB did back from 92 to 96. DnB has gone underground again, and so will UK Garage eventually.

Do you not remember General Levy? Shy FX? etc

No, it's just gone out of fashion. The same thing happens to all musical genres, then they get their popular/commercial renaissance and the cycle repeats.

the joy of that tho is if the venue is open till late then most of the wankers have fucked off by 1am leaving the rest of the venue free to the, er, chemically balanced few :)
