Copy paste or learn it..whatever, there's no difference, well except learning is a lot slower and prone to mistakes.
Do you think in a hundred years time we will still be teaching people facts they have to 'remember', it's quite obviously a crap way of doing it against immense computing power, it's like carrying a horse in your boot in case the car breaks down.

Eh? Fuck them. By covering up their laziness you're being complicit in plagiarism. Wikipedia is a tertiary source so it'll never be acceptable.

Tell them they're on their own, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Yep. And go straight to the lecturer to dob 'em in.

Laziness?
I call in initiative, the internet is a tool, use it to best advantage, people don't think it's cheating to use a drill to
drill a hole and the drill manufacturer doesn't pay a percentage to faraday for inventing the electric motor.
To move on we need to drop the archaic notion of self, knowledge belongs to everyone and once we share. we'll all be better off.
Plagiarism has only raise it's head because of copy paste, it's been done for centuries, in fact it's essential l for development, freakin dinosaurs are jumping on it because we can now make EXACT copies and they can search for them.
write an essay..on whatever..we don't need to it's allready been done, give us something no-one has covered before ..that's progress.

You're obviously a product of what you preach.

So i told our group supervisor of the plagiarism, the lack of citation and referenceses. What he basically told me was to put the stolen material in citation and make a clear reference to where we got it from. I told him that I would most likely be kicked out of uni if I did anything like that in Denmark, but since I don't have to show my report back home he didn't see the problem. This is one of the three men who will grade me for the project. So guess I'll look through the report, put citations and references in and we'll when good to go

Lol

At the end of your piece make a reference to this or leave it as an appendix.

Was looking through some of the stuff they wrote and some of it they have taken from a Facebook group... This project is going in the fucking gutter

Is my own fault for believing in my group mates and not reading through everything they made?

I would start by writing a well worded letter to whoever it is that needs to know about all this. Explain everything.

(Criticism time) However you should have spotted this earlier on. Isn't working as part of a team exactly that? In "the real world" working in a team doesn't mean going off on your own and hoping everyone else does a good job. You should have had regular update meetings to see how everyone was getting on. Any slackers should have been dealt with earlier on in the project.

Exactly the point I was going to make. I do feel for you mate but there is a lesson to be learnt here as well.

Interesting concept, you could have bargained with a hot chick before turning her in - insist you re-write it for a pokey-bum BJ.

You've failed for a showing a complete lack of business acumen. ;)

Fail.

Truly skilled jobs require you to be able to stitch things together in your head, on the fly. If you've not learned it you can never hope to do this.

Copying will get you a grade. The grade might get you a job. Your lack of competence is soon exposed, however.

You truly do not know anything about the mechanics of learning or memory dude. You learn very little from shallow exposure, i.e copy paste. You'll forget it in very little time, it wont stick. The one and only way to actually get something into memory is by repetition, but more importantly deep exposure.

On topic, Cornokz, take it higher. Bring it up with your course convenor, or even head of department

We regularly got mails and notifcations about the consequences of cheating at our school. This was necessary mainly because the chinese exchange students did not understand that plagiarism is cheating (apparently it is not classed as cheating in china) and got a lot of chinese students got suspended because of this.

And agree on the english point as well, when I started Uni I had to take an english test to see that my english was sufficient to take the courses. It does NOT seem the exchange students had the same demands, I seriously don't think they would pass ninth grade english (and then they throw in really "big" words to mask their otherwise useless english :p).

I am well aware of the 'mechanics' of learning, I am just pointing out that they are soon to be extinct, 'copy paste' is a blunt tool that will soon evolve into something a million times better than human memory.
The confines of today that seem so important and hung onto by the old skool scholars will die with them, we just need to embrace it rather than fear the change. It is happening right now, Google translate/goggles/search/maps are the tiny roots of a new relationship with knowledge and I know why they do it, but they really need to stop and think.

Don't be silly, getting a job will be easy. Who needs skills or any understanding of a subject when you have access to google??

Jeez, for a bunch of nerds , you're rather backward looking.

So "cut & pasting" knowledge is somehow superior to actually acquiring that knowledge? That must make perfect sense in the magical-land-of-Job.

Reading this thread must have damaged my brain as I can't tell if Job is just trolling or actually believes what he's typing (which is worse)
