Frog cuts USB power

I've just got Nilly ADSL. Connection is f*$%ing excellent (60k downloads, 50ms pings on Q3, CS etc). But when playing CS/Q3 it plays alright for a while then cuts all USB power (I disconnected all other USB devices except for my intellimouse explorer). Any ideas?

A powered USB hub, or a better PSU. I'd try the first option.

Powered USB hub works for me. They still eat a load of CPU cycles tho. Bad frog, hungry frog :(

That's why I have a separate gateway machine, froggy can eat all the cycles he wants.

You got an Athlon?

That sucker will pull all the power the USB port can supply and often the MB will shut down as a result. Powered hubs wont work for some Athlon MBs as Athlons are very powerhungry and the energy management system will protect the cpu. Sometimes increasing the rating of the power supply will help but you may still have probs with energy management system of the MB despite that. For instance I couldn't get my Athlon system to work after trying all the above, inc upping my PSU to an enermax 428W supply but me P3 system was okay....I do know some athlon owners who say powered hubs etc get round this but you can spend a lot of money doing all this...

BTO were aware of this when they sold me my frog but they didnt check my installation for compliance. Because they cocked up I got my ADSL cancelled for no charge and my money was reimbursed.

Now me got NTL cable modem and messahs happy

Hungry froggy is happy with his 500 celery all to himself because he can eat all he wants.

Tnx 4 all the replies. I'd been thinking about a seperate sever, so I'm going to bang one together and put the frog on that.

the reason is pretty simple, the usb spec is 500 miliamps and the frogz draw 570 - LOTS of systems have issues with this, best bet is a belkin externally powered usb hub...

I think it looks like a Cadbury's Smash Robot, or a Martian Ship from War of the Worlds.

I setup a seperate server pc running linux the same week I got Nildram ADSL and it seemed to work ok. My pc not having to use its CPU for the modem was a bonus for FPS ....... but it wasn't until I bought an ASUS router that I realised the frog/squid truly is crap! USB is always crap IMHO ... but also the modem itself appears to be very poor at transfering the data when compared to this router I now have.
If you think ADSL is fast, wait till you try it with a decent router!!!

Mine does this too :*(

I've decided to invest in a modem/router from asus. The will give better latency times because the 'Frog' is the equivalant of a winmodem using your systems processing power. This is generally the reason for higher pings with adsl.
