no, but I did tell a temp girl that Scots wear kilts because their genitals are massive and can't be restrained by Y-fronts.

I use Xine to play DVD's on my Linux machine - although it don't have all the fancy functions that WinDVD has, it plays 'em with no problem - there are a couple of other GNU Linux players too. Worth a try ?

Only one I can think of is PowerDVD which comes with most DVD drives. Mine's the old version but works fine on XP. Maybe you can pick up a cheap copy somewhere.

I tried Cygwin, and de-installed after an hour, as it wouldn't run any multi-media type application, or any network applications. It's detection of hardware in the version I tried was crap - what about a minimal install of SUSE/Mandrake/Red Hat, and then running Xine on that ?

Afaik Windows Media Player can play DVD's if you get the right codec on your box, also I seem to remember RealOne does them which can work "ok-ish" if you can disable everything in it that's gay.

what about that old Nvidia DVD player? might work if the laptops got an Nvidia on-board card like most high-end spinky laptops bought by large companies
*eyes Toshiba 6100 beside him*

or VLC Media Player? (linky )

Teedy, try Media Player Classic here... I used that after a clean install of Windows before I put any other media player type things on there, and it was fine with DVDs. (And it's free) :)

I use VLC and it beats the pants of every other software DVD player. All other DVD software stutters sound on my PC, except for VLC. Additionally, it's fairly resource light weighing in at ~7Mb.
