Nah, we only move the clocks around cause before conbinharvesters were invented the farmers had to get up at 4 am to bring the corn home.

Nowadays there's no advantage to it whatsoever in my opinion.

There are lots of reasons, but the farmers are not one of them, they have always got up when the cock crows, regardless of what the clock said, nature waits for no-one.

BST was first proposed in 1907 and decreed by parliament in 1916, by which time mechanisation of farming was well underway.

Principly it was to allow the rest of the country other than the farmers to take advantage of the extra hours of sunlight in the evening, this also reduces power use. During the war we had "double summer time" when the clocks were put forward 2 hours, purely for productive reasons.

The only reason for keeping the shift in time is the north of the country would still be in darkness at 9-10am if we stayed in BST.

Fair enough. Seeing as I'm moving north, that sounds pretty reasonable :D

The minutes are also wrong (or all the clocks in my house need adjusting).
