Chelsea 2-1, but united still winning the league on goal difference is my prediction

Fortress Stamford, coupled with the players motivation of wanting to win for Lampard will prove too much for united.

Deserved win for Chelsea there. Man Utd were poor, just like Weds night. Rooney/Vidic injured as well.

Danger of it all falling apart for them in the next week.

Chelsea just need an 18-0 against Bolton on last day of season to catch up thhe goal difference :)

better second half, injury to rooney could be costly in the long run. Carrick was poor all day so werent surprised he gave away that penalty. Maybe a little harsh, but cant complain about it after our one on Wednesday.

Knew it be tough with the fact the FA gave us no rest bite between 3 massive games. Least generally in italy and spain they make sure their top teams dont meet often in the same week as big european games.

Credit to Chelsea, they continued to push and it probably was a fair reflection of the game. Should still take the league by the end of the season but it gonna be nervy.

Well done Chelsea.

That was nothing but a disgrace, keep playing like that and we can forget winning anything this season.

Boring, negative shit football is not the Utd way!

Harsh penalty? not really, ball touches arm from a cross some 10 yards away = penalty, every time.

It's never harsh on the defending team, it's only ever harsh on the attackers when the numpty assistant doesn't give it.

Chelsea played well. Think Ferguson was a bit arrogant in his team selection even if they are playing Barca on Tues. Chelsea are very very solid at home so going there with a weakened team wasnt so great. I would have just wanted to end the league right now so they wouldnt have to worry about anything but CL. Nani fucked up on several occasions, Park would have been a lot more consistant and hard working.

Barca game on Tuesday will be like a must win now, it's getting very tough for United towards the end of the season.

I think United will pull through and win the Premiership though - all the ambassadors for the EPL and most football-respecting neutrals will be cheering them on.

I'm still struggling to understand the team selection a bit.

What they've done is given themselves 4 must win games (if they win on Tuesday) instead of being able to focus on Tuesday then rest.

I guess Alex assumes that the next 2 PL games are a free 6 points for him.

Well, I wouldn't see Man U loosing the 2 PL games they have left.

However, on the form they are in I'm not so sure.

i said a little harsh... which when you look at the many not given every week for much clearer offences then it was. It was stupid by Carrick not to move his hand out the way, but 9 out of 10 linesman wouldnt dare give it. I would pretty much guarentee that if it was the other end then it wouldnt have been given, especially that late in the game

Consider that penalty payback for Saha going down like a sack of shit at OT in September :)

pfft, I consider ballacks assault on Ronaldo right after he came on when a corner was taken as payback :p

About time the FA step up to the plate and penalise grappling like that, he had no interest in the ball. Personnally I think the refs should just blow up for a penalty the instant the ball comes into play. It will soon cut it out from all sides. Generally it the defender the culprit, but when it is the attacker instantly give a freekick. In a matter of a few games that will be sorted.

edit: p.s. not taking anything away from Chelsea as they probably were just about the better team, just I get annoyed with the way teams defend constantly from set pieces and you couldnt get much clearer then what ballack was doing.

Loved how as soon as Ronaldo came on man united started getting free kicks left right and centre from all his diving. He's almost as good at it as Drogba!

Were you watching the same game?

Chelsea were on top through a vast majority of the game, seen them play some negative football this season but not much of it yesterday. Chelsea totally dominated midfield with Fletcher and Carrick almost totally played out the game.

Man Utd only looked like scoring from a dead ball set piece, which is par for the course in the last few games.

Queiroz comments after the game was the best comedy I've seen in a while, "It must be necessary for a player to bring a gun and shoot one of our men in the box for us to get a penalty." In reference to Ballack/Ronaldo incident which imo was 50/50 before Ronaldo did his usual impression of a dying swan.

Drogba should have been carded for the various dives and acting. If Hargreaves escapes FA action after his actions when the whistle was blown then something is very wrong.

Chelsea deserved the win, they were by far the better side on the day.

Just read on BBC that it kicked off a bit during a warm down with Man Utd players and Chelsea Ground Staff. Seems the Ground Staff wanted to get on with repairing the pitch and asked the players to move on.

This picture is just so funny. Evra poking his tongue out at a grown man. It's like temper tamtrum from a 2 year old. Seems normal behavior from footballers these days!

To his credit Park didn't go down and an elbow was within 3 feet of him. ;)

Having watched motd i think the pen wasn't harsh. The ball travelled a fair way before it came to Carrick and there wasn't really an effort to move his hand out the way.

Ronaldo thing was 50/50 but if we had pens for everytime JT was grappled in the box then, well you know :p

That fight at the end made me laugh though, why were these guys warming down anyway? They weren't even on the bench yesterday. Then obviously petulance got the better when they were asked to move :p

Without knowing your Man Utd, the above post seemed more sarcastic. Did not see the earlier post though regarding Man Utd's play style. Fully agree and apologies for the misunderstanding.

non-playing players always have a warm down with subs etc, and it done in every match at every pitch. It prevents injuries hence why they do it, you realise the non playing people all do vigorous exercises incase they are called up at last minute?

If Chelsea aint willing to let them complete it then they are just twats who trying to cause trouble. If you watched the Barcelona game the other day then you would know for about 40minutes after the match there was some players out on the pitch warming down and there was no bother, and infact help keep the crowd going while they stuck waiting on police releasing them.

And I love the fact that certain idiots (not you vlad) say freekicks came as ronaldo dived... no you fools, freekicks came when ronaldo came on because Chelsea players were to clueless on how to actually tackle someone that has skill and pace. But that be cause they dont get much practice in training as they dont have any players like that :p

Yeah but surely you can't change the subs bench once the game has started?

Anyway - i don't know enough about this scuffle but i would presume they were only asking them to move to another area of the pitch as opposed to off it completely. Who knows though.

Drogba/Ronaldo/Gerrard/Eboue/Johnson + many others all dive, they will all keep diving until the FA have the balls to dish out red cards.

Without replays during the game it'll never happen. If the ref gets it wrong then he'll be in hot water.

Does the 4th official have access to a monitor in the dugout? Could be the best way to deal with contentious decisions like these.

They don't even need to disk out red cards. They just need to stop giving the free kicks so the other team can get on with counter attacking while they lie on the floor.

The best one I saw yesterday was Terry tho. Nani fell over and brushed the back of his leg with his shin and Terry collapsed to the floor for 30 seconds holdng his head!
