Yes The Koran is holy, but they would probably have been offended if their flag wasn't there aswell

I find it very hard to see how you could please the muslim world, without making a complete ass of yourself and stooping to a low level most of the time

Less extreme then forcing african countries to not teach about sex education and potential dangers involved, refusing to allow contraceptives to be sent in aid, thus killing hundreds, if not thousands of people daily :p That's the extremist christian way of working, imposing their beliefs with a metaphorical gun put to their heads if they don't abide by it (in the form of restricting aid). Okay so they don't directly pull the trigger, doesn't make it anymore right though. The alternative is america stops their aid and they die anyway.

Every religion has its extremists, they by far do not make up the majority, I just think it's sad when anyone forces their beliefs on anyone, but especially when it results in death.

Yep.

Religion is the people's Opiate. Like it or not, it's here to stay, and in my eyes; is to blame for 90%* of the suffering on the planet today.

(*More or less, /careface)

This is fucking ridiculous. These people are like spoiled kids. If you dont want your kids to kick these holy words then just take away the ball ;o

And for the people who defend them. Its not racistic to say that some muslims are doing something wrong. It really isnt... really! I do wonder what you would have said if this had happened in America.

Also, when someone blames the muslims for something, why do you start listing the stupid things that christians do? ;o Why should I/we have any connection with them? Should i take responsibility for something that a white religious person does? Fuck no. All religious people are equally stupid.

Why even put text like that on it??
Don't get it... why not just keep it plain - as almost any other ball?

The text is in the flag of Saudi-Arabia (right? ;>). So if they had left the flag out of the ball, then we would probably be in the same situation. Perhaps taking of the text from the flag would have worked but how the hell would they predict something as stupid as this?

And you know why this is news?

Because they want to show how "evil" and "uncaring" islam nations are.

Anyone saying they are just reporting it "because it's silly", need to take a moment to think about it.

Why not give them normal footballs? Why the f*cking ridicilous flagballs?

"Because we are the United States and we bring world togethersz!!"...right.

Well they made the internet a most the technology and hardware that runs it.

So they actually did bring the world together in a way no one could have imagined. :p

I would be suprised if they really thought about it that hard - hence the problem as you said about them not understanding islam well enough.

Had it of been in the sun I'd have been a little more inclined to that opinion, but even then, still sceptical I think.

I personally would'nt have expected protests over something like this - or perhaps I might have expected a "why give us football when we need food" protest. I wouldnt really have thought that even the muslims would've been this childish, and believe me, thats saying something!

I could be wrong and it could be a big conspiracy, but tbh the muslims are the ones protesting about this and to me it just seems pretty damned stupid.

Well true, i'll give 'em that. But that TOO was only because they needed it for their world domination plans :D

Dukat, i think the problem why western civilization doesn't understand the uprise about such a "minuscule" thing is because it's not thought from a perspective.

There are things we do, that the islam community thinks is just downright stupid, and vise versa.

It could easily be the other way around, just can't think of a gift(because i'm nto islam), that would be in their eyes a "nice gift" but the western civilization would consider an insult. Or, atleast part of us would.

Maybe some..i dunno...american flag underwear?

Don't know if that comment was aimed at me or not, but my comment was a reply to the quoted poster saying they were more extreme then christianity as an example. Only reason I bought it up :D

I'm pretty sure that Saudi Arabia had requested the flag be removed from the design before it was printed, but they just went forward with it anyway.

But yeah, it is only 100 people who are just looking for anything to kick up a fuss about it and now we live in a country where the minority are heard above the majority. *sigh*.

The worst thing is, the day this item was published, there were probably 10 other news worthy items from Afghanistan that could have been published but we try not talk about the war as much as possible these days because it gets the public thinking again.

Yeah, dunno where the arab came from, probably from some other post here..dunno. My bad.

But the thing is, it's not the same.

You can't compare jesus and mohammed, or different countries flags. Different values altogether.

LKike i said, someone should've asked around to check if it was offensive.

Just because it's not to us, doesn't mean it's not to them. Especially since EVERYONE knows how seriously they take the koran and religion.

Sure, you have to take crap gifts with a smile, as they are gifts, but if someone bought you a sign with "Dukat should die" on it, would you jsut smile and go "thank you, thank you".

That's the point. Even if a gift giver/reciever thing is a bit iffy in some areas, insulting gifts arn't less offensive because they are gifts.

But about this being a "gift to kids", i don't think that's the case, it's more probably the lack of knowledge to their culture that offended them.

You're missing the point here. If they had intentionally made fun of islam or something like that, then this would be understandable, but it was a mistake.

Should the americans double check their gifts for stuff like this? Absolutely, but again, i can see why they didnt notice this small detail. It was a mistake, and a small one too, so it does not explain such childish behaviour. Would you accept this kind of overreacting if this was about white people? ;O

If they dont like it, then they should just give the balls back and explain the problem.

Absolutely.

If it was in the same parameters, but as i said, then you'd have to take a look at that situation and compare to this one, which would explain why this situation ain't at all so ridicilous or "islam only" thing.

People don't need a reason or explanation to take offence at anything in the name of religion.

The sky's blue ! BLASPHEMY ! This is the gravest insult to *insert name of God or religion*

My 2 cents: Say what you wanna say. Fuck the terrorists up the ass with large pineapples.

I think the key to it was this:

About 100 people demonstrated in the south eastern province of Khost after clerics criticised the US for insensitivity.

So, about 2 Mosques full demonstrate after the usual long sermon on Friday afternoons. Nothing new and hardly worth a news article except perhaps to laugh at. If that's all they have to demonstrate over it can't be that bad!

lol when i worked at asda they had to withdraw a toy pirate ship because some of the designs on te ship looked similar to some arabic writing and could be seen as insulting...it wasnt arabic writing it just looked similar to that style...

umm so because of that, whether it was an actual complaint from arabic people or some corprate kitty cat not wanting to be sued i dont know but it is just a stupid as the story here.

imo they can take their balls and stick em up teir arses! thatll really give them something to contemplate and while theyre thinking of that they can thin of this "Accept with grace a gift given with grace" i.e there was no malicious intent behind the gift of footballs, there was nothing sinister about it so stop being such a big hairy jessy and stfu.

I would go so far as to say that these balls were chosen as gifts BECAUSE they had the flags of many countries on them, maybe as a gesture to promote the idea of a united world or something.
I am certain it was not meant as an insult. It just seems that some people look for insults in everything America does, and the media is hungry for stories like this.
Unfortunately the world seems to have gone completely PC mad :fluffle:

If it was me, I'd say ' Ok then, give us all the balls back and you get FUCK ALL ELSE'

and see how they like THOSE apples..

its always the gobby agressive minority that ruins it for the majority who aren't mouthy pains in the arse, its like dogs...no seriously little dogs like yorkies or poodles, ive known some totally lovely toy dogs theyve been super but because of the yappy snappy ones that havent been trained the whole lot get a bad name because no one notices the well behaved ones...

now am i going to gt in trouble because i made a well meaning comparison between dogs and religious followers?

So 100 people demonstrated somewhere and in China a sack of rice dropped down.

I am wondering what's more interesting, a sponsored demonstration (like they exist in many also western democratic countries, at least you can hire people in Germany to demonstrate for you) or that sack.

Might have been good rice.
